  1. Optical physics

Unreferenced date December 2009 Optical physics , or optical science , is a subfield of atomic, molecular, and optical physics . It is the study of the generation of electromagnetic radiation , the properties of that radiation, and the interaction of that radiation with matter , especially its manipulation and control. It differs from general optics and optical engineering in that it is focused on the discovery and application of new phenomena. There is no strong distinction, however, between optical physics, applied optics, and optical engineering, since the devices of optical engineering and the applications of applied optics are necessary for basic research in optical physics, and that research leads to the development of new devices and applications. Often the same people are involved in both the basic research and the applied technology development. Researchers in optical physics use and develop light sources that span the electromagnetic spectrum from microwave s to X ray s. The field includes the generation and detection of light, linear and nonlinear optics nonlinear optical processes, and spectroscopy . Laser s and laser spectroscopy have transformed optical science. Major study in optical physics is also devoted to quantum optics and Coherence physics coherence , and to femtosecond optics. In optical physics, support is also provided in areas such as the nonlinear response of isolated atoms to intense, ultra short electromagnetic fields, the atom cavity interaction at high fields, and quantum properties of the electromagnetic field. Unreferenced date December 2009 Chemical physics is a subdiscipline of chemistry and physics that investigates physicochemical phenomena using techniques from atomic, molecular, and optical physics atomic and molecular physics and condensed matter physics it is the branch of physics that studies chemical processes from the point of view of physics. While at the interface of physics and chemistry , chemical physics is distinct from physical chemistry in that it focuses more on the characteristic elements and theories of physics. Meanwhile, physical chemistry studies the physical nature of chemistry. Nonetheless, the distinction between the two fields is vague, and workers often practice in each field during the course of their research. What chemical physicists do Chemical physicists commonly probe the structure and dynamics mechanics dynamics of ions , free radical s, polymers , cluster chemistry clusters , and molecule s. Areas of study include the quantum mechanical behavior of chemical reaction s, the process of solvation , inter and intra molecular energy flow, and single entities such as quantum dots . 1. Measure (physics)

The measure in quantum physics is the integration measure mathematics measure used for performing a path integral . In quantum field theory , one must sum over all possible histories of a system. When summing over possible histories, which may be very similar to each other, one has to decide when two histories are to be considered different, and when they are to be considered the same, in order not to count the same history twice. This decision is coded within the concept of the measure by an Observer quantum physics observer . In fact, the possible histories can be deformed continuously, and therefore the sum is in fact an integral , known as path integral formulation path integral . br In the limit where the sum is becoming an integral, the concept of the measure described above is replaced by an integration measure mathematics measure . 1. Quality (physics)

about quality in the physical sense quality disambiguation see also Vapor quality In Green s function many body theory response theory , the quality of an excited system is related to the number of excitation frequencies to which it can respond. In the case of a homogeneous, isotropic system, the quality is proportional to the Full width at half maximum FWHM . This sense of the phrase is the precursor of the usage of the word in music theory . In music theory, quality is the number of harmonics of a fundamental frequency of an musical instrument instrument the higher the quality, the richer the sound . 1. Factory Physics

Factory Physics ref http www.factoryphysics.com custom page.cfm?category 5&page 257&active 257 Factory Physics ref is a book written by Wallace Hopp and Mark Spearman, which introduces a framework for manufacturing management. According to the book s preface, Factory Physics is a systematic description of the underlying behavior of manufacturing systems. Understanding it enables managers and engineers to work with the natural tendencies of manufacturing systems to Identify opportunities for improving existing systems. Design effective new systems. Make the tradeoffs needed to coordinate policies from disparate areas. Critical response This work won the 1998 Institute of Industrial Engineers IIE Book of the Year Award. 1. Molecular physics

Unreferenced date September 2009 Molecular physics is the study of the physical properties of molecule s, the chemical bond s between atom s as well as the molecular dynamics . Its most important experimental techniques are the various types of spectroscopy . The field is closely related to atomic physics and overlaps greatly with theoretical chemistry , physical chemistry and chemical physics . Additionally to the electronic excitation states which are known from atoms, molecules are able to rotate and to vibrate. These rotations and vibrations are quantized, there are discrete energy level s. The smallest energy differences exist between different rotational states, therefore pure rotational Spectrum spectra are in the far infrared region about 30 150 m wavelength of the electromagnetic spectrum . Vibrational spectra are in the near infrared about 1 5  m and spectra resulting from electronic transitions are mostly in the visible and ultraviolet regions. From measuring rotational and vibrational spectra properties of molecules like the distance between the nuclei can be calculated. One important aspect of molecular physics is that the essential atomic orbital theory in the field of atomic physics expands to the molecular orbital theory.
