no footnotes date March 2012 The Serb uprising in Banat in 1594 was one of the three largest uprisings in Serb ian history against the Ottoman Empire , and the largest before the establishment of the autonomous Serbian state in the so called First Serbian Uprising 1804 1813 , led by Kara or e Petrovi . In the Banat region, which then formed part of the Ottoman Eyalet of Teme var , in the area around Vr ac , a large uprising began against the Ottoman Empire. The leader of this uprising was Teodor Nestorovi , the Eparchy of Banat Bishop of Vr ac . Other leaders were Sava Ban and voivode Velja Mironi . For a short time, the Serb rebels captured several cities in Banat, including Vr ac , Zrenjanin Be kerek , and Lipova , as well as Titel and Be ej in Ba ka . The size of this uprising is illustrated by the verse from one Serbian national song Sva se butum zemlja pobunila, est stotina podiglo se sela, Svak na cara pu ku podigao The whole land has rebelled, a six hundred villages arose, everybody pointed his gun against the emperor . The rebellion had the character of a religious war holy war , the Serb rebels carrying flags with the image of Saint Sava . Sinan Pasha , who led the Ottoman army, ordered the green flag of Muhammad brought from Damascus to counter the Serbian flag, and burned the mortal remains of Saint Sava in Belgrade . Eventually, the uprising was crushed, and most of the Serbs from this region, fearing Ottoman retaliation, fled to Transylvania , leaving the Banat region deserted. The Ottoman authorities, who needed population in this fertile land, promised clemency to all who returned. The Serb population did come back, but the authorities mercy did not apply to the leader of the rebellion, Bishop Teodor Nestorovi , who was flaying flayed as a punishment. Use dmy dates date April 2012 Sir Walter Long c. 1594 1637 was an England English knight and landowner born in Wiltshire , the son of Sir Walter Long 1565 1610 and his wife Catherine Thynne of Longleat . He succeeded to his father s estates, including Draycot , in 1610 and he married firstly in 1614, Anne Ley, daughter of James Ley, 1st Earl of Marlborough . There was one son from this marriage, his heir, Sir James Long, 2nd Baronet . According to historian John Aubrey , Long s father in law spent so much time at Draycot House with his daughter and her husband, that he had a gateway erected there with his own Coat of arms on it, but afterwards there was a quarrell, which probably arose from some family disapproval of the Earl s marriage with a third young wife. The rift seems to have continued till the end of the Earl s life in his will he begged pardon of the Lady Anne . Long married secondly, Elizabeth Master c.1636, and they had one son, Walter d.1673 . Sir Walter Long died in July 1637, and his widow died in 1658. According to one of William Waller s men writing about the capture of Long s son Sir James at Devizes in 1645, Sir Walter Long had died after falling from his horse near Chichester and broken his neck. He was supposedly in drink , and his son James almost spurred the horse to death that broke his father s neck .
