  1. Confession of Basel

The Confession of Basel is one of the many statements of faith produced by the Protestant Reformation Reformation . It was put out in 1534 and must be distinguished from the First and Second Helvetic Confession s, its author being Oswald Myconius , who based it on a shorter confession promulgated by Oecolampadius , his predecessor in the church at Basel . Though it was an attempt to bring into line with the reforming party both those who still inclined to the old faith and the Anabaptist section, its publication provoked a good deal of controversy, especially on its statements concerning the Eucharist . The people of Strasbourg even reproached those of Basel with celebrating a Christless supper. Up to the year 1826 the Confession sometimes also known as the Confession of M hlhausen from its adoption by that town was publicly read from the pulpits of Basel on the Wednesday of Passion week in each year. In 1872 a resolution of the great council of the city practically annulled it. 1. Gallic Confession

The Gallic Confession of Faith or Confession de La Rochelle or French Confession of Faith 1559 is a Reformed Christian confessions of faith Reformed confession of faith . Under the auspices of Geneva a church was organised in Paris ref N.V. Hope, 1985, Galic Confession, Evangelical Dictionary of Theology , Walter A. Elwell ed. , Bath, Marshall Morgan & Scott Publications Ltd., p.438. ref in 1555 with a formal organisation and regular services. Soon after other churches sprang up elsewhere in France. Its history begins with the statement of faith sent by the Reformed churches of France to John Calvin in 1557 during a period of persecution. Working from this, and probably with the help of Theodore Beza and Pierre Viret , Calvin and his pupil De Chandieu wrote a confession for them in the form of thirty five articles. When persecution subsided, twenty delegates representing seventy two churches met secretly in Paris from 23 to 27 May 1559. With Fran ois de Morel as moderator, the brethren produced a Constitution of Ecclesiastical Discipline and a Confession of Faith Calvin s thirty five articles were all used in the confession, apart from the first two which were expanded into six. Thus the Gallic Confession had forty articles. In 1560 the confession was presented to Francis II of France Francis II with a preface requesting that persecution should cease. The confession was confirmed at the seventh national synod of the French churches at La Rochelle in 1571, and recognized by German synods at Wesel in 1568 and Emden in 1571. 1. Tetrapolitan Confession

The Tetrapolitan Confession , also called the Confessio Tetrapolitana , Strasbourg Confession , or Swabian Confession , was the official Confession of faith confession of the followers of Huldrych Zwingli and the first confession of the Protestant Reformation reformed church . Tetrapolitan , formed by the Greek language Greek Tetra , meaning four , and Politan , meaning city , or Municipal , consisted of four cities Strasbourg , Konstanz , Memmingen , and Lindau . It was written mostly by Martin Bucer with the help of Wolfgang Capito in 1530 during the Diet of Augsburg in order to bring Zwinglianism Zwinglianist Christians into theological consistency. At the time Zwinglianists were excluded from Lutheranism because of differences in significant points of theology i.e. Sacramental Union vs. Memorialism , etc. . The Confession consists of 23 chapters, and is rather similar to the Augsburg Confession in both format and theology, and retains the same essence of moderation. However the first chapter does state that nothing should be taught except that which is explicitly stated in Bible Scripture , a statement that is not found the Augsburg Confession, although this has always been a major principle of Lutheran theology. The Confession never fully took hold, however, because the more clear and logical Calvinism Calvinist confessions were generally more appealing, and the remaining four Zwinglian cities all signed the Lutheran Confession in order to be a part of the defensive Schmalkaldic League . Bucer, however, stayed true to his confession and recited it even on his deathbed.
