In 1968, the founding of the University of the South Pacific , whose main campus was in Fiji s capital Suva , provided a stimulus for Fijian and, more widely, Pacific Islander literature. Creative writing courses and workshops were set up. The South Pacific Arts Society was founded at the University in 1973, and published Pacific Islander literature poetry and short stories in the magazine Pacific Islands Monthly . Manx literature is literature in the Manx language . The earliest datable text in Manx preserved in 18th century manuscript s , a poetic history of the Isle of Man from the introduction of Christianity , dates to the 16th century at the latest. Christianity has been an overwhelming influence on Manx literature. Religious literature was common, but surviving secular writing much rarer. The Book of Common Prayer and Bible were translated into Manx in the 17th and 18th centuries. The first Manx Bible was printed between 1771 and 1775 and is the source and standard for modern Manx orthography . It was a collective translation undertaken by most the Manx clergy under the editorship of Philip Moore. Further editions followed in 1777 and 1819. A tradition of lang gv carvals , religious songs or Carol music carols , developed, probably with its roots in the pre Reformation period. The emergence of Vanuatu ni Vanuatu literature written literature as distinct from oral literature took place in the context of the development of indigenous Pacific Islander literature in the Pacific region as a whole, beginning in the late 1960s. In 1968, the founding of the University of the South Pacific in Suva provided a stimulus for Pacific Islander literary aspirations. Creative writing courses and workshops were set up. The South Pacific Arts Society was founded at the University in 1973, and published Pacific Islander literature poetry and short stories in the magazine Pacific Islands Monthly . In 1974, the Society founded the publishing house Mana Publications , followed in 1976 by the art and literature journal Mana journal Mana .
