About the dead mall in Milwaukee, Wisconsin the mall in Salinas, California Northridge Mall refimprove date April 2007 Northridge Mall is a defunct shopping mall located in the northern part of Milwaukee, Wisconsin that opened in 1973 and closed in 2003. History Northridge Lakes Development, approximately two square miles in dimension, is bordered by the corner of North 76th street and Brown Deer Road in Milwaukee, Wi. The Grand Opening occurred in August of 1972, three years after its sister mall, Southridge Mall Wisconsin Southridge Mall opened in 1970. Both were financed and owned by Senator Herb Kohl and part of the Taubman Centers. Northridge Mall, and nearby Northridge Lakes development, a residential development consisting of a mix of inventive multi family residences, were never well received by Milwaukee, and nearby Ozaukee County. The pioneering Mall was planned and designed as a regional center, consisting of a two level mall with four anchors JCPenney , Sears, Roebuck and Company Sears , Boston Store , and Gimbels . The nearby residential development, with man made lakes, nature preserve areas, jogging paths and so on, etched a new life style, in what were basically low productive corn fields. The Mall development, at the onset, featured unique and interesting architecture, along with popular evening entertainment, and dining venues. Later developments, included a now defunct prominent Color Tile store, along with a standard Walmart, Circuit City defunct and Target. Revitalization Attempts Recently, developers have been revitalizing parts of the old Northridge Mall under the new name Granville Station.
