  1. GG45

Image GG45 jack 26plug 26RJ45plug.jpg 300px thumb right GG45 jack and plug The GG45 where GG stands for GigaGate , and 45 is to remind the backward compatibility with the 8P8C modular connector often colloquially called RJ45 is a electrical connector connector for high speed Category 7 cable generally known as Cat 7 Local area network LAN cabling developed by Nexans . The cabling system was standardized in 2001 as IEC 60603 7 7, and then selected as a worldwide Category 7 cabling standard within ISO 11801. GG45 connectors provide backwards compatibility for standard 8P8C 8P8C connectors in a Category 6 cable interface mode 1 , where eight conductors are used for Cat 6 100 250 MHz operation. In addition, GG45 has four additional conductors in the extreme corners that interface with new high speed Cat. 7 600MHz and Cat 7a 1000MHz networks. The 4 additional conductors are connected to 2 pairs while the other 2 twisted pairs remain connected to the original 8P8C connector s most distant pins 1 and 2 and 7 and 8. A Category 6 or 6A plug uses the original contact positions, but a Category 7 or 7A plug instead uses the contacts located in the four corners and has a protrusion that activates a switch within the jack for the alternative contact positions. This reduces crosstalk within the connector that higher speed data is sensitive to. The key advantage of the GG45 interface therefore has plenty of headroom combined with the ability to migrate to higher speed service by upgrading to Category 7A patch cords that activate the switch in the jack. ref cite web title Twisted pair connectors continue technological evolution url http www.cablinginstall.com index display article display 344659 articles cabling installation maintenance volume 16 issue 11 features technology twisted pair connectors continue technological evolution.html date November 1, 2008 accessdate October 19, 2009 , section A step further ref See also TERA the new Category 7 connector for Cat.7 Class F networks. ...   more details

  1. Rollover cable

Rollover cable also known as Cisco console cable or a Yost cable is a type of null modem cable that is often used to connect a computer terminal to a router s System console console port. This cable is typically flat and has a light blue color to help distinguish it from other types of network cabling. It gets the name rollover because the pinouts on one end are reversed from the other, as if the wire had been rolled over and you were viewing it from the other side. This cabling system was invented to eliminate sex differences in RS 232 wiring systems. Any two RS 232 systems can be directly connected by a standard rollover cable and a standard connector. For legacy equipment, an adapter is permanently attached to the legacy port. A standard RS 232 rollover cable conforms to the Yost Serial Device Wiring Standard . It s a standard because it has been widely published, both on the Internet, and in the Unix Administrator s Guide. 1. Server Interface Pod

Orphan date February 2009 unreferenced date December 2008 A Server Interface Pod is a proprietary hardware unit developed by Dell and Avocent . It sends KVM switch keyboard, video, and mouse signals over Category 5 cable s, greatly decreasing the workload of managing normally bulky and expensive KVM cables. One side of a SIP consists of either two PS 2 connector PS 2 cables and a VGA cable or a single USB cable and a VGA cable, which are connected to a host. The other side consists of a female 8P8C RJ 45 modular connector which is connected to a KVM switch via a straight through Cat 5 cable. A SIP can be interfaced via RJ45 cable directly to a KVM or through a Dell Port Expansion Module which connects eight SIPs to a single KVM port. This is useful for installing a single KVM into a multirack environment with minimal cabling. Upon connection to the KVM the SIP will register itself, and the user can then allocate a name to the SIP, such as the server s name. This name is stored on the SIP, so if the KVM switch is replaced, reconfiguration of each SIP is not required. Many of Dell s KVM switches are IP enabled, allowing users to remote control servers with a Linux or Microsoft Windows client. 1. Terminal adapter

ISDN In ISDN terminology, a terminal adapter or TA is a device that connects a terminal computer to the ISDN network. The TA therefore fulfills a similar function to the ones a modem has on the Plain old telephone service POTS network, and is therefore sometimes called an ISDN modem . The latter term, however, is partially misleading as there is no modulation or demodulation performed. There are devices on the market that combine the functions of an ISDN TA with those of a classical modem with an ISDN line interface . These combined TA modems permit connections from both ISDN and analog line modem counterparts. In addition, a TA may contain an interface and codec for one or more analog telephone lines aka a b line , allowing an existing POTS installation to be upgraded to ISDN without changing phones. Terminal adapters typically connect to a basic rate interface S interface S0 , sometimes also U interface U0 . On the terminal side, the most popular interfaces are RS 232 serial and USB others like V.35 or RS 449 are only of historical interest. Devices connecting ISDN to a network e.g. Ethernet commonly include router computing routing functionality while they technically include a TA function, they are referred to as ISDN router computing router s. Mobile Networks In Mobile network s, the terminal adapter is used by the Terminal equipment to access the Mobile termination , using AT commands see Hayes command set . In 2G such as GSM or CDMA , the terminal adapter is a theoretically optional while in 3G such as W CDMA , the terminal adapter is mandatory and is part of the Mobile Termination . Automation industry In the automation industry, a terminal adapter is a passive device that converts a connector like the 8P8C RJ 45 modular connector or DE 9 connector 9 pin D Sub into a terminal block to facilitate wiring. It is often used when daisy chain wiring is necessary on a multi node serial communication network like RS 485 or RS 422 . See also Federal Standard 1037C DE ...   more details

However, patch cords typically refer only to short cords used with patch panel s. Patch cords can be as short as 3 inches ca. 8  cm , to connect stacked components or route signals through a patch bay , or as long as twenty feet ca. 6 m or more in length for snake cables. As length increases, the cables are usually thicker and or made with more shielding, to prevent signal loss attenuation and the introduction of unwanted radio frequencies and hum electromagnetic interference . Patch cords are often made of coaxial cable s, with the signal carried through a shielded core, and the electrical ground or earthed return connection carried through a wire mesh surrounding the core. Each end of the cable is attached to a connector so that the cord may be plugged in. Connector types may vary widely, particularly with adapting cables. Patch cords may be single electrical conductor conductor wires using, for example, banana connector s coaxial cable s using, for example, BNC connector s Twisted pair Cat5, Cat5e , or Cat6 cables using 8P8C RJ 45 modular connector ...   more details

  1. HIL bus

Image Hp hil adapter.jpg thumb 180px right HP HIL Adapter The HP HIL Hewlett Packard Human Interface Link , not to be confused with the HP IL , is the name of a computer bus used by Hewlett Packard to connect keyboards, mice, trackballs, digitizers, tablets, barcode readers, rotary knobs, touchscreens, and other human interface peripherals to their HP 9000 workstations. The bus was in use until the mid 1990s, when HP substituted PS 2 connector PS 2 technology for HIL. The PS 2 peripherals were themselves replaced with Universal Serial Bus USB connected models. The HIL bus is a daisy chain of up to 7 devices, running at a raw clock speed of 8  MHz. Each HIL device typically has an output connector, and an input connector to which the next device in the chain plugs the exception is the mouse which has only the output connector. HIL buses can be found on HP PA RISC and m68k based machines, as well as in some early HP Vectra computers. HP UX , OpenBSD , Linux and NetBSD include drivers for the HIL bus and HIL devices. The HP HIL bus uses specific 4 pin, 6 pin, or 8 pin SDL connector s, somewhat similar to the 8P8C 8 pin modular connector commonly though incorrectly called the Registered jack RJ 45 . The bus can reportedly also use a 9 pin D subminiature DE 9 connector. A HIL to PS 2 converter is available, namely the HP A4220 62001.
