The Ethiopian Clowns were an independent barnstorming baseball team. Originally based in Miami, Florida , the team was founded by Sid Pollock in 1937. Citation needed date August 2011 Pollock was instrumental in promoting and popularizing the Clowns and developed them into a nationally known combination of show business and baseball that earned them the designation as the Harlem Globetrotters of baseball. In 1943, the Clowns joined the Negro league baseball , beginning a 12 year membership in the circuit before withdrawing following the 1954 season. At first, the team was relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio , where they became the Cincinnati Clowns , then in 1944 they moved to Indianapolis, Indiana , playing as the Indianapolis Clowns for the rest of their existence. Class Clowns is an annual search for Australia s funniest high school student. This competition runs as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival , and is one of the major events of the festival. Heats, semi finals and then finals are run in each Australian state and territory, with the winners of the state finals competing in the Grand Final in Melbourne . The Grand Final had been held in the Melbourne Town Hall every year until 2010 when it made the switch to the Malthouse Theatre.
