Cornelis van Vollenhoven 8 May 1874, Dordrecht &ndash 29 April 1933, Leiden was a Netherlands Dutch law professor and legal scholar, best known for his work on the legal systems of the East Indies . Cornelis van Vollenhoven began his university studies at Leiden at the age of 17, where he would earn many degrees, including a masters in law 1895 , a bachelors degree in Semitic languages 1896 , a masters in political science 1897 , and finally his Ph.D. in law and political science 1898 . He received a cum laude for his thesis, Scope and content of international law Omtrek en inhoud van het internationale recht , which foreshadows his later focus on the laws of Southeast Asia . After finishing his studies, van Vollenhoven became the private secretary of J.Th. Cremer, a colonial captain of industry and minister of Colonial Affairs. In 1901 van Vollenhoven became professor of the Adat Law of the Dutch East Indies at Leiden University . As legal scholar he had enormous influence on his students and colleagues. The University of Amsterdam granted him an honorary doctorate in 1932. Most of his life, van Vollenhoven focused on the traditional legal system of Indonesia , the Adat . He campaigned for its preservation and dispelled myths of its being quackery and inefficient. He wrote numerous pamphlets on the subject, including The Adat law of the Netherlands Indies Het adatrecht van Nederlandsch Indi , which documented the adat traditions of 19 different regions, plus the adat traditions of the Foreign Orientals vreemde oosterlingen , i.e. Arabs , China Chinese , India ns, and the like . Most remarkably, all of his work was done in Leiden, as van Vollenhoven vistied the East Indies only twice once in 1907 and again in 1923. During his life, he was adat s greatest champion, and is still revered by many of the older generations in Indonesia. The Man for Adat Law , as he was called, died in Leiden in 1933. File Streaming Technology is the term used by Alesis for the proprietary file system used for their Alesis ADAT HD24 ADAT HD24 recorder which was released in 2001. FST is most notable for being designed from the ground up for audio purposes. Limitations The FST file system uses unsigned 32 bit sector addressing, allowing it to work with drive capacities up to 2 Terabyte. The file system has gone through two major revisions FST version 1.0 and the latest version, FST version 1.10. The latter adds long file names 64 characters, as opposed to 10 characters in 1.00 as well as the possibility to create up to 99 projects, each containing up to 99 songs. The file system has an undo space of roughly 3 minutes in size 1 track, 48 kHz 24 bit audio http www.soundonsound.com sos Feb02 articles alesishd24.asp . FST stores audio of several tracks in an interlaced adjacent manner. FST does not support virtual tracks, and as such the HD24 recorder based on it behaves much like a tape based recorder. Patents According to Alesis , the file system is patent pending however, no patents for FST are known to have been published to this date, suggesting that the patent was rejected or that the patent process was never completed. Specifications Since the release of the HD24, several people have had varying levels of success in reverse engineering the FST file system specifications for interoperability purposes. This has resulted in usable third party software capable of reading HD24 drives. storage software stub Category Digital audio ... more details
