Sea life includes fiddler crabs , mud crab Scylla serrata , mudskipper s, Periophthalmus kalolo and many species of sea snails and sea slugs. Resident species of birds including the endangered Mangrove kingfisher Halcyon senegaloides . The mangroves are also visited by large numbers of migratory bird species. Fish also use this for mating grounds. Threats and preservation Many areas of mangrove in southernAfrica have been cleared for timber, urban and industrial development, including tourist facilities, and this is ongoing. Further damage to habitats is caused by pollution of rivers, while forest clearance inland causes rivers to bring down larger quantities of soils and the rivers and estuaries to be blocked. distinguish The Christian Institute The Christian Institute of SouthernAfrica was an ecumenical progressive organisation founded by English and Afrikaans clergy in December 1963 to unite South African Christians against apartheid. The CI became deeply involved with black activists like Steve Biko , and was banned by the state in 1977. History The Christian Institute of SouthernAfrica was founded in 1963 by 280 Christians Hexham 1980 that included Ben Marais , Albert Geyser and John de Gruchy. Factors that contributed to the founding was the need to continue dialogue after the disastrous conclusion of the 1960 Cottesloe consultation, the last time that all South African churches met until 1990. Reformed members of the CI could also critique official Dutch Reformed policies, which included support for apartheid.
