  1. Analog forestry

Analog forestry is a system of planned, managed forests, primarily employed in tropical or subtropical areas. The forests are designed to mimic the function and ecology of the preexisting climax vegetation for the area, and are also designed to provide economic benefits. Analog forestry draws design input not only from traditional models but also from the natural forest successional dynamics. When an ecosystem is designed to be analogous to the indigenous climax state, the efficiency and dynamics of the natural processes can be replicated. These quasi natural forests are designed to mimic the structural and functional aspects of indigenous forests and are referred to as analog forests. In addition to their ecological characteristics, analog forests are also designed to provide economic benefits. However, it is not until all the ecological requirements of the location are satisfied that economic values of species are considered. Therefore, an analog forest may comprise natural and exotic species in any proportion, the contribution to structure and function being the overriding factor that determines its use. It arose in Sri Lanka around 1981 as an alternative to monocultures of Pinus and Eucalyptus and has spread to India , Vietnam , Philippines , Australia , Peru , Ecuador , Colombia , Brazil , Costa Rica , Dominican Republic , Honduras , Mexico , Canada , Kenya and Zimbabwe at present. In chemistry , a structural analog structural analogue , also known as chemical analog or simply analog , is a chemical compound compound having a structure similar to that of another one, but differing from it in respect of a certain component. It can differ in one or more atom s, functional group s, or substructures, which are replaced with other atoms, groups, or substructures. A structural analog can be imagined to be formed, at least theoretically, from the other compound. Despite a high chemical similarity, structural analogs are not necessarily functional analog s and can have very different physical, chemical, biochemical, or pharmacological properties. 1. Analog chip

An analog chip is a set of miniature electronic analog circuit s formed on a single piece of semiconductor material. Description The voltage and Electric current current at specified points in the circuits of an analog chips vary continuously in time. In contrast, digital chips only use and create voltages or currents at discrete levels, with no intermediate values. In addition to Transistor s, analog chips often have a larger number of passive elements Inductor Capacitor s Resistor s than digital chips typically do. Inductors tend to be avoided because of their large size. It was one of those fortunate discoveries that a transistor and capacitor together can do the work of an inductor. When this trick is used in a compact fluorescent lamp CFL , you get an electronic ballast . Analog chips may also contain digital logic elements to replace some analog functions, or to allow the chip to communicate with a microprocessor . For this reason and since logic is commonly implemented using CMOS technology, these chips use BiCMOS processes by companies such as Freescale , Texas Instruments , STMicroelectronics and others. This is known as mixed signal processing and allows a designer to incorporate more functions in the chip. Some of the benefits include load protection, reduced pats count and higher reliability. ref Information Freescale website, Mar 28th 2010, http www.freescale.com webapp sps site overview.jsp?nodeId 014359sMjvtxRl&tid taDR About Freescale Analog Products ref Pure analog chips in information processing have been mostly replaced with digital chips.
