Unreferenced auto yes date December 2009 technical date December 2011 In computer science , a reentrant mutex is a mutual exclusion , recursive Lock computer science lock mechanism. In a reentrant mutex, the same thread can acquire the lock multiple times. However, the lock must be released the same number of times or else other threads will be unable to acquire the lock. It has some similarities to a counting semaphore programming semaphore . Recursive locks also called recursive thread mutex are those that allow a thread to recursively acquire the same lock that it is holding. Note that this behavior is different from a normal lock. In the normal case if a thread that is already holding a normal lock attempts to acquire the same lock again, then it will deadlock. Recursive locks behave exactly like normal locks when another thread tries to acquire a lock that is already being held. Note that the recursive lock is said to be released if and only if the number of times it has been acquired matches the number of times it has been released by the owner thread. Many operating systems do not provide these recursive locks natively. Hence, it is necessary to emulate the behavior using primitive features like mutexes locks and monitor synchronization condition variables . A big form of criticism on recursive mutexes is that when used in combination with condition variable s, the Semantics of programming languages semantics are not clearly defined. Say, the condition variable would not recursively unlock the mutex, the system could run into a deadlock. On the other hand, if the mutex would be recursively unlocked, it would unlock all critical sections, even though simple inspection of code wouldn t reveal this. Therefore several implementations, such as the mutexes and condition variables used inside the FreeBSD kernel, don t allow waiting on a condition variable if the calling ... that allow multi core programming, where mutexes and condition variables fail. multiple issues no footnotes February 2012 orphan February 2012 unreferenced February 2012 wikify February 2012 Reentrant superconductivity is an effect observed in systems that lie close to the boundary between ferromagnetic and superconducting. By its very nature normal superconductivity condensation of electrons into the BCS ground state cannot exist together with ferromagnetism condensation of electrons into the same spin state, all pointing in the same direction . Reentrance is when while changing a continuous parameter, superconductivity is first observed, then destroyed by the ferromagnetic order, and later reappears. An example is the changing of the thickness of the ferromagnetic layer in a bilayer of a superconductor and a ferromagnet. At a certain thickness superconductivity is destroyed by the Andreev reflection Andreev reflected electrons in the ferromagnet, but if the thickness increases, this effect disappears again. Another example are materials with a curie temperature below the superconducting transition temperature. When cooling, first superconducting order appears in the electron system. Cooling further, the ferromagnetic order energetically wins over the superconducting order in the electron system. At even lower energy superconductivity reenters, and a a nonuniform magnetic order appears. there is ferromagnetic order on short length scales, but superconducting order on large length scales. File KCL.png framed Kirchhoff s current law is the basis of nodal analysis. In electric circuits analysis, nodal analysis , node voltage analysis , or the branch current method is a method of determining the voltage potential difference between Node circuits nodes points where elements or branches connect in an electrical circuit in terms of the branch currents. In analyzing a circuit using Kirchhoff s circuit laws , one can either do nodal analysis using Kirchhoff s current law KCL or mesh analysis using Kirchhoff s voltage law KVL . Nodal analysis writes an equation at each Node circuits electrical node , requiring that the branch currents incident at a node must sum to zero. Nodal precession is the precession of an orbital plane around the rotation axis of an astronomical body such as the Earth. This precession is due to the non spherical nature of a spinning body which creates a non spherical gravitational field. Around a spherical body, an orbital plane would remain fixed in space around the central body. However, because most bodies are non spherical due to their rotation, this causes an equatorial bulge. Equatorial bulges have a gravitational effect that causes orbits to precess around the rotational axis of the central body. For a satellite in a retrograde orbit about the Earth, the longitude of the ascending node increases and the node precesses eastward. This nodal progression allows sun synchronous orbit s to maintain a constant Beta angle angle relative to the Sun . Equation The rate of precession depends on the inclination of the orbital plane to the equatorial plane, as well as the orbital eccentricity. For a satellite in a prograde orbit about the Earth, the precession is westward nodal regression , the node and satellite move in opposite directions ref cite book last Brown first Charles title Elements of spacecraft design pages 106 url http books.google.com books?id mTSSMhcmVbkC&lpg PA95&ots hkARYnIy9h&dq ascending 20node 20regression&pg PA121 v onepage&q ascending 20node 20regression&f false ref .
