  1. Flash component

orphan date August 2010 A Flash component is a stand alone piece of content movie clip , which has defined adjustable parameters and can be reused within Flash projects. Up to date Flash components are building blocks for creating Rich Internet applications on the web. By providing complex pieces that behave in a consistent way and are ready to use and customize, components significantly reduce the time and effort needed to develop applications from scratch. As well as built in Flash files, components can include both graphics and code. Self contained functionality of Flash components enables to easily integrate the file into any project. For example, a component can be a scroll bar, a site form, a gallery, or even something that has no graphics at all, such as a timer, a server connection utility, or a custom XML parser. History Adobe Flash History Macromedia Flash 5 contained the Smartclips feature which is considered to be the predecessor to Flash components. This was a movie clip symbol that allowed its variables or clip parameters to be set via graphic user interface GUI in the authoring tool. The notion Flash component first appeared within Macromedia Flash MX as version 6, released on March 15, 2002 . Components replaced and extended Smart Clips introduced in earlier versions of Flash. Macromedia Flash MX included seven Flash UI components CheckBox, ComboBox, ListBox, PushButton, RadioButton, ScrollBar and ScrollPane. Users have got a possibility to use those components separately to add simple user interaction to Flash movies, or together to create a complete user interface for Web forms or applications. 1. Component ERA

Unreferenced date December 2009 Component ERA or ERC is a baseball statistic invented by Bill James . Citation needed date January 2008 It attempts to forecast a pitcher s earned run average ERA from the number of hits and walks allowed rather than the standard formula of average number of earned runs per nine innings. ERC allows one to take a fresh look at a pitcher s performance and gauge if his results are more or less than the sum of its parts. The formula for ERC as it appears in the 2004 edition of the Bill James Handbook ERC H BB HBP PTB BFP IP 9 0.56 where H is hit baseball hits , BB is bases on balls walks , HBP is hit by pitch , BFP is batters faced by pitcher , IP is innings pitched , and PTB is defined as PTB 0.89 1.255 H HR 4 HR 0.56 BB HBP IBB where HR is home run s, IBB is intentional walk s, and others are as above. Where intentional walk data are not available use PTB 0.89 1.255 H HR 4 HR 0.475 BB HBP If ERC is less than 2.24, the formula is adjusted as follows ERC H BB HBP PTB BFP IP 9 0.75 Other people and organizations have their own proprietary formulae for ERC which may correlate more highly with actual earned runs scored than the formula above. 1. Irreducible component

In mathematics , the concept of irreducible component is used to make formal the idea that a set such as defined by the equation XY 0 is the union of the two lines X 0 and Y 0. The notion of irreducibility is stronger than connected space connectedness . Definition A Topological spaces topological space X is reducible if it can be written as a union math X X 1 cup X 2 math of two Closed set closed Subset proper subsets math X 1 math , math X 2 math of math X math . A topological space is irreducible or hyperconnected space hyperconnected if it is not reducible. Equivalently, all non empty open set open subsets of X are dense set dense or any two nonempty open sets have nonempty intersection set theory intersection . A subset F of a topological space X is called irreducible or reducible, if F considered as a topological space via the subspace topology has the corresponding property in the above sense. That is, math F math is reducible if it can be written as a union math F G 1 cap F cup G 2 cap F math where math G 1,G 2 math are closed subsets of math X math , neither of which contains math F math . An irreducible component of a topological space is a maximal Reduction mathematics irreducible proper subset subset . If a subset is irreducible, its closure topology closure is, so irreducible components are topological space closed . Use in algebraic geometry In general algebraic variety or Scheme mathematics scheme X is the union of its irreducible components X sub i sub . 1. Third-party software component

Unreferenced date December 2009 In computer programming , a third party software component is a reusable software component developed to be either freely distributed or sold by an entity other than the original vendor of the development platform. The third party software component market thrives because many programmers believe that Component based software engineering component oriented development improves the efficiency and quality of developing custom applications. However, this belief may be misplaced because the majority of these components are not subject to the same quality controls that one would expect to find in other industries. It is rare to find a software component that was developed in accordance with a general standard such as ISO 9001 , let alone a more specific standard that would be applicable to the function of the component. For instance, there is a British Standards Institution specification BS 6117 1981 which details the requirements for the performance and characteristics of glass bottles for light wine, however no such standard exists for a software component that would provide a Java logging framework . This means that the user of such a software component would not be able to rely on it having a predictable behaviour. Visual Basic Microsoft Visual Basic Spawned the first commercially viable market for reusable software components. Visual Basic s first extensibility mechanism was the specification for Visual Basic Extension s, commonly known as custom controls . In version 4.0 of Visual Basic, the OCX custom control was introduced to replace VBX. OCX was later renamed ActiveX and then component object model COM . In version 7.0 of Visual Basic, also known as VB.NET , Microsoft introduced the Microsoft .NET .NET Component to replace both VBX and ActiveX ... layer. Unreferenced date December 2009 Component Library for Cross Platform CLX pronounced clicks , is a cross platform visual component based framework for developing Microsoft Windows and Linux applications. It is developed by Borland for use in its Kylix programming tool Kylix , Delphi programming language Delphi , and C Builder software development environment. Its aim was to replace the popular Microsoft Windows only Visual Component Library , VCL. CLX was based on Qt framework Qt by Nokia . The Application programming interface API of CLX almost completely followed VCL. It was envisioned that existing applications using VCL would be recompiled with CLX. However, due to lacklustre performance on Windows, subtle differences from VCL, and bugs, it didn t become the expected successor to VCL. Commercial failure of Kylix stopped further development of CLX. In terms of object oriented approach, CLX forms an object hierarchy where the TObject class serves as the Superclass computer science base class . 1. Defense-Independent Component ERA

Abbreviated DICE , Defense Independent Component ERA is a recent 21st century variation on Component ERA , one of an increasing number of baseball sabermetrics that fall under the umbrella of defense independent pitching statistics . DICE http www.sportsmogul.com content dice.htm was created by Clay Dreslough in 2001 . The formula for Defense Independent Component ERA DICE is math DICE 3.00 frac 13HR 3 BB HBP 2K IP math In that equation, HR is home runs, BB is walks, HBP is hit batters, K is strikeouts, and IP is innings pitched. That equation gives a number that is better at predicting a pitcher s ERA in the following year than the pitcher s actual ERA in the current year. Component ERA was created by Bill James to create a more accurate way of evaluating pitchers than earned run average ERA . Whereas ERA is significantly affected by luck such as whether the component hits are allowed consecutively , Component ERA eliminates this factor and assigns a weight to each of the recorded components of a pitchers performance. For CERA, these are single baseball singles , double baseball doubles , triple baseball triples , home run s, base on balls walks and hit by pitch hit batters . Defense Independent Component ERA aka DICE is an improvement on CERA that removes the contribution of the pitcher s defense, instead estimate a pitcher s ERA from the components of his pitching record that don t involve defense. These are home runs, walks, hit batters and strikeout s. Template Baseball statistics Category Pitching statistics baseball stub ...   more details

  1. Component (group theory)

In mathematics , in the field of group theory , a component of a finite group finite group mathematics group is a quasisimple group quasisimple subnormal subgroup . Any two distinct components commutativity commute . The product of all the components is the Fitting subgroup The generalized Fitting subgroup layer of the group. For finite abelian group abelian or nilpotent group nilpotent groups, p component is used in a different sense to mean the Sylow theorems Sylow p subgroup , so the abelian group is the product of its p components for primes p . These are not components in the sense above, as abelian groups are not quasisimple.
