The Immigration Act of Parliament Act in Canada was created in 1976 by then Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau . It focused on who should be allowed into Canada, not on who should be kept out. The Act came into force in 1978 along with new Immigration Regulations. This Act gave more power to the provinces to set their own immigration laws, and defined prohibited classes in much broader terms. Individuals who could become a burden on social welfare or health services would now be refused entry, rather than specific categories of people, i.e. homosexuals , the disabled , and so on created four new classes of immigrants who could come to Canada, which are refugees , families, assisted relatives, and independent immigrants. While independent immigrants had to take part in the Economic impact of immigration to Canada Points System , other classes did not have to take part in this test so long as they passed basic criminal, security and health checks. This Act also created alternatives to deportation for less serious criminal or medical offenses, since deportation meant the immigrant was barred from entering Canada for life. After 1978, the government could issue 12 month exclusion orders and a departure notice, if the cause for a person s removal wasn t serious. but in some cases it could be severe. The general tax credit max of 35 capita or 2 of 9,000 income was temporarily extended and small business tax rates were temporarily lowered through 1977 . The act delayed the decrease in the investment tax credit through 1980 , expanded the individual minimum tax, and increased the long term capital gains holding period from 6 months to 1 year. A unified rate schedule for the estate and gift taxes with a 175,000 exemption was created. Capital Gains The previous major tax legislation Tax Reform Act of 1969 had established a 10 minimum tax and while it had left long term capital gains under 50,000 to continue to qualify for the 25 percent alternative capital gains tax rate, it increased the rate on gains over 50,000 to 29.5 percent in 1970, 32.5 percent in 1971, and 35 percent one half the 70 percent top tax rate applicable to ordinary income in 1972 and later years. The Land Charges Act 1972 is a UK Act of Parliament that updates the system for registering charges on unregistered land in England and Wales. It has largely been repealed, and updated in the Land Charges Act 1925 . Background In the early 20th century, a package of reforms were made to register land in England and Wales to make conveyancing cheaper and simpler, and free land to the market. The main legislation was the Land Registration Act 1925 , the Law of Property Act 1925 , the Trustee Act 1925 , the and the Settled LandAct 1925 . However, much land was to remain unregistered. Instead, for that land not yet registered, people could choose to explicitly register interests under the Land Charges Act 1925 , and so get better protection than the common law might provide against a bona fide purchaser without notice of any equitable interest sought to be protected.
