  1. Kiribati Adaptation Program

The Kiribati Adaptation Program KAP is a US 5.5 million initiative that was originally enacted by the national government of Kiribati with the support of the Global Environment Facility GEF , the World Bank , the United Nations Development Program , and the Japan Japanese Government. Australia later joined the coalition, donating US 1.5 million to the effort. The program aims to take place over 6 years, supporting measures that reduce Kiribati s vulnerability to the effects of climate change and sea level rise by raising awareness of climate change, assessing and protecting available water resources, and managing inundation. At the start of the Adaptation Program, representatives from each of the inhabited atolls identified key climatic changes that had taken place over the past 20 40 years, and proposed coping mechanisms to deal with these changes under 4 categories of urgency of need. 1. Red adaptation goggles

Red adaptation goggles were first invented by Wilhelm Trendelenburg in 1916 for early radiologists to use to adapt their eyes to view the light produced by fluorescent screens during fluoroscopic procedures. The concept is based on the work by Antoine Beclere on dark adaptation of the human eye eye , where it is noted that fluoroscopy relies the use of the retinal rods of the eye. Since retinal rods are insensitive to long wavelengths of light, such as red light, while retinal cones are not, the goggles enabled the physicians to adapt their eyes in preparation for the fluoroscopic procedure while still being able to perform other work. Prior to the invention of these goggles, physicians were required to sit in the darkened room where the procedure would be performed for extended periods to adapt their eyes to the low lighting conditions. The Internet Content Adaptation Protocol ICAP is a lightweight Hypertext Transfer Protocol HTTP like protocol specified in RFC 3507 which is used to extend transparent proxy server s, thereby freeing up resources and standardizing the way in which new features are implemented. ICAP is generally used to implement antivirus software virus scanning and content filtering content filters including censorware in transparent HTTP proxy caches. Content adaptation Content Adaptation refers to performing the particular value added service content manipulation for the associated client request response. Buzzword section date September 2011 ICAP concentrates on leveraging edge based devices Proxy server Caching caching proxies to help deliver value added service s. At the core of this process is a cache that will proxy all Client computing client transactions and will Process computing process them through ICAP Web server s. Off loading value added services from Web servers to ICAP servers allows those same web servers to be scaled according to raw HTTP throughput versus having to handle these extra tasks. History ICAP was proposed in late 1999 by Peter Danzig and John Schuster from Network Appliance. Don Gillies took over the project in the spring of 2000 and enhanced the protocol to allow pipelined ICAP servers and to support all 3 encapsulations of HTTP allowed by HTTP 1.1. Orphan date April 2012 The Codon Adaptation Index CAI ref name pmid3547335 cite journal author Sharp PM, Li WH title The codon Adaptation Index a measure of directional synonymous codon usage bias, and its potential applications journal Nucleic Acids Res. volume 15 issue 3 pages 1281 95 year 1987 month February pmid 3547335 doi 10.1093 nar 15.3.1281 issn pmc 340524 ref is the most widespread technique for analyzing Codon usage bias . As opposed to other measures of codon usage bias, such as the effective number of codons Nc , which measure deviation from a uniform bias null hypothesis , CAI measures the deviation of a given protein coding gene sequence with respect to a reference set of genes. Rationale Ideally, the reference set in CAI is composed of highly expressed genes, so that CAI provides an indication of gene expression level under the assumption that there is translational selection to optimize gene sequences according to their expression levels. The rationale for this is dual highly expressed genes need to compete for resources i.e. ribosomes in fast growing organisms and it makes sense for them to be also more accurately translated. Both hypotheses lead to highly expressed genes using mostly codons for tRNA species that are abundant in the cell. Implementation CAI is simply defined as the geometric mean of the weight associated to each codon over the length of the gene sequence measured in codons . math CAI exp 1 L sum l 1 L ln w i l , math For each amino acid, the weight of each of its codons, in CAI, is computed as the ration between the observed frequency of the codon f sub i sub and the frequency of the synonymous codon f sub j sub for that amino acid. math w i frac f i max f j text ij text in synonymous , codons , for , amino , acid math See also Codon usage bias Genetic code Codon References reflist Category Molecular biology ...   more details

Interpersonal Adaptation Theory IAT is sort of a theory of theories. Multiple theories attempt to describe certain interactions and parts of an interaction in great detail, while IAT, encompassing all of those other theories, makes predictions throughout the entire course of the interaction. It states that people begin an interaction with a combination of expectation epistemic expectations , requirements , and desire emotion desires . Background In 1995, Judee K. 1. ATM Adaptation Layer 5

ATM Adaptation Layer 5 AAL5 is an ATM adaptation layer used to send variable length Packet information technology packet s up to 65,535 octet computing octet s in size across an Asynchronous Transfer Mode ATM network. Unlike most network frames, which place control information in the Header information technology header , AAL5 places control information in an 8 octet Trailer information technology trailer at the end of the packet. The AAL5 trailer contains a 16 bit length Field computer science field , a 32 bit cyclic redundancy check CRC and two 8 bit fields labeled UU and CPI that are currently unused. Each AAL5 packet is divided into an integral number of ATM cells and reassembled into a packet before delivery to the receiving host network host . This process is known as Segmentation and Reassembly see below . The last cell contains padding to ensure that the entire packet is a multiple of 48 octets long. The final cell contains up to 40 octets of data, followed by padding bytes and the 8 octet trailer. In other words, AAL5 places the trailer in the last 8 octets of the final cell where it can be found without knowing the length of the packet the final cell is identified by a bit in the ATM header see below , and the trailer is always in the last 8 octets of that cell. Convergence, segmentation, and reassembly When an Application software application sends data over an ATM connection using AAL5, the host delivers a block of data to the AAL5 interface. AAL5 generates a trailer, divides the information into 48 octet pieces, and transfers each piece across the ATM network in a single cell. On the receiving end of the connection, AAL5 reassembles incoming cells into a packet ...
