  1. Early adopter

An early adopter or lighthouse customer is an early customer of a given company, product, or technology in politics, fashion, art, and other fields, this person would be referred to as a trendsetter . The term originates from Everett M. Rogers Diffusion of Innovations 1962 . ref cite book last Rogers first Everett M. authorlink Everett Rogers year 1962 title Diffusion of Innovations publisher Free Press of Glencoe, Macmillan Company ref History Unreferenced section date February 2007 Typically this will be a customer who, in addition to using the vendor s product or technology, will also provide considerable and candid feedback to help the vendor refine its future product releases, as well as the associated means of distribution, service, and support. The relationship is synergy synergistic , with the customer having early and sometimes unique, or at least uniquely early access to an advantageous new product or technology, but he also serves as a kind of guinea pig. In exchange for being an early adopter, and thus being exposed to the problems, risks, and annoyances common to early stage product testing and deployment, the lighthouse customer is sometimes given especially attentive vendor assistance and support, even to the point of having personnel at the customer s work site to assist with implementation. The customer is sometimes given preferential pricing, terms, and conditions, although new technology is very often expensive, so the early adopter still often pays quite a lot. The vendor, on the other hand, benefits from receiving early revenues, and also from a lighthouse ... more at release is colloquially referred to by whom? date May 2010 as the early adopter tax . 1. Specialty catalogs

Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 Peacock date October 2009 Specialty catalogs are a promotion marketing promotion and distribution business distribution technique commonly employed by direct marketing direct marketers . They describe, graphically and verbally, a limited range of product business products . Specialty catalogs are a good promotion distribution choice for new products. They are also most effective when using a niche strategy . There are several reasons for this It is less risky than a mass distribution strategy. If it is not successful, it can be altered with only moderate expense. It is a stealthy way of testing market acceptance of the product. It doesn t alert the competition, or at least the competition will not perceive it as a threat. Specialty distribution is better able to obtain high margins than mass distribution. This will allow a price skimming strategy, where it is possible to capture the consumer surplus over time. Specialty catalogs allow the marketer to better target prime segments, like the early adopter marketing early adopters and innovators that will be prepared to try a new product. Catalog response is immediate. Product problems will become evident before too many products are shipped. Catalogs are less expensive than sales forces. The average cost per sale is lower than most forms of advertising where low volumes are involved. The printed medium is suitable for new products or any other situation where detailed information needs to be communicated.
