  1. Competition aerobatics

Competition aerobatics is an air sport in which referee judges rate the skill of pilots performing aerobatics aerobatic flying. It is practiced in both Reciprocating engine piston powered single engine airplanes and Glider sailplane gliders . An aerobatic competition is sanctioned by a national aero club, its designee, or in the case of international competitions, by the F d ration A ronautique Internationale FAI . ref name CIVA cite web url http www.fai.org aerobatics title FAI Aerobatics Commission CIVA language English accessdate 2009 04 06 ref The sanctioning body establishes the rules that apply to the competition, including entry qualifications for all participants, operating procedures and judging criteria. A pilot enters a competition in a category of his or her choice, which defines the level of difficulty of the aerobatic sequences flown. Within each category, a pilot flies one or more flight programs . Each flight receives a total score from the judges ranking each pilot s combined total scores for all flight programs within each category determines that category s winner. ref In some competitions, scores from the Known Program are used for qualifying purposes only and do not count to determine the final standings. ref Categories Five power categories are flown in the United ... airborne sports. 1. 3D Aerobatics

Orphan date December 2010 unreferenced date May 2010 3D Aerobatics or 3D flying is a form of flying using flying aircraft to perform specific aerial maneuvers. They are usually performed when the aircraft had been intentionally placed in a stalled position. Introduction 3D aerobatic flying is a typically performed by model aircraft which have been configured with a higher thrust to weight ratio of more than 1 1. In fixed wing airplanes large Flight control surfaces control surfaces assist the aircraft on performing radical maneuvers which allow the aircraft to turn in tighter than conventional turns. This is achieved by having larger control surfaces rudder , aileron s, and Elevator aircraft elevator and having greater amounts of throw applied to these control surfaces. Depending on the type of competition, a pilot may compete in Set Maneuvers where a pilot can choose from a number of maneuvers from pre published set of moves or Freestyle , where pilots must show their skill within a predetermined environment in a free format. Pilots often train moves using PC simulators such as RealFlight or other RC flight simulator s. This allows the pilot to practice and hone their skills before using the real RC model which may be costly exercise in the event of a crash. Pilots have the ability to plug the controller used to fly the real model to the PC and simulator via a USB link cable thus giving the pilot a better response to the real world controls. Types of aircraft Expand section date May 2010 Airplanes There are a multitude of Hobby Grade Model Airframes that can perform 3D maneuvers. Many of these models are designed after full scale airframes with slight modifications to accommodate thrust to weight ratios, control surface sizes. 1. Firebird Aerobatics

Orphan date February 2009 Firebird Aerobatics was a professional aerobatic display company run by the British aerobatic competition and display pilot Brian Lecomber. Throughout its history the company operated from Denham Aerodrome , Buckinghamshire. Origins Firebird was established in 1981 by Brian Lecomber following two years flying with the Rothmans Aerobatic Team. The company s first aircraft was a Stampe , which continued to be operated by the company for many years. Soon after Brian also began operating a Pitts Special , flying in the colours of Dunlop Tyres . This was to be the first of Firebird s major commercial sponsorships, with the company establishing an enviable reputation for working with a number of high profile organisations. The Dunlop Pitts flown by Brian Lecomber soon became a favourite at airshows in the United Kingdom and Europe. This sponsorship lasted for 5 years, and helped to cement Brian Lecomber s personal reputation as a well respected exponent of advanced aerobatics. Growth In the mid 1980s Firebird grew. In 1986 1988 the company expanded to operate two Pitts Specials as well as the Stampe , with one each sponsored by Toyota , and the Daily Express . Additionally, in 1987 Firebird began displaying the Extra 230 in the colours of Jaguar Cars . In line with this growth, in 1986 Brian Lecomber was joined by the highly experienced aerobatic pilot John Harper and in 1989 by Alan Wade. At the end of 1988 the Toyota sponsorship ended and in its wake came support from Microlease, an electronic test equipment rental company, starting a partnership which was to last for many many years. Into the 90s As the 1990s dawned Firebird continued to grow in stature, making appearances each year at the biggest airshows around Europe as well as numerous smaller events like fetes, agricultural shows and motor races. Although the Jaguar sponsorship of the Extra 230 ended in 1990, a replacement was soon found in the form of Express Newspapers, who followed up their previous ...   more details

Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 The Fieseler Fi 2 , better known as the F2 Tiger the name which adorned the plane itself , was a Germany German aerobatic biplane which was flown to victory in the 1934 World Aerobatics Competition WAC by the German aerobatics star, Gerhard Fieseler . Fieseler was a World War I German Flying ace fighter ace with almost 20 kills to his credit. The 1934 World Aerobatics Competition held in Paris was the first of its kind, and, despite the deaths of two pilots and a few crashes, the competition continued and Fieseler won, although he went over the time limit due to a loose Seat belt harness . However, he was still awarded the win, beating his nearest competitor, fr Michel D troyat Michel Detroyat of France who flew an Morane Saulnier M.S.225 M.S.225 , by 23 points 645.2 to 622.9 . Fieseler retired from the sport with his victory. The F2 Tiger itself would form the basis for later planes, including the Fieseler Fi 5 Fieseler F5 . It was built by Fieseler s own aircraft company, Fieseler Fieseler Flugzeugbau later, Fieseler Gerhard Fieseler Werke . The Fi 2 served as both an important forerunner of later German aircraft which would go on to fight for the Third Reich in World War II WWII , and as a famous piece of inter war aircraft design, as well as being the winning aircraft of the first WAC.
