Initially, the card was used only for Air Canada transactions, but over time, the card was expanded into a more general credit card for business travellers, being accepted by hotels, restaurants, and other merchants. It offered such features as detailed transaction details and sorting of expenses by category. In 1989, enRoute card became the first credit card to earn its cardholders Aeroplan miles with their purchases. In 1992, Air Canada sold the Canadian dollar 300 million enRoute card business to Diners Club. The move gave enRoute cardholders access to the existing Diners Club network of 2.1 million merchants at the time, while earning existing Diners Club Canada cardholders Aeroplan miles. Cierva, the engineer responsible for the invention of the autogiro, had spent all his funds in the research and creation of his first five prototype s. So, in 1923, he turned to the Cuatro Vientos Aerodynamics Laboratory chief, Commander Emilio Herrera, who succeeded in persuading General Francisco Echag e, the director of the Military Aviation Aeronautics Department, to take over the second stage in the research and development of Cierva s Autogiros. After several wind tunnel tests, Military Aviation built a Cierva C.6 autogiro in an Avro 504 frame. This machine, piloted by Captain Joaqu n Loriga Taboada, performed three flights, all of them in March 1924.
