Umoja Orchestra was, and still is, a strong presence in the Gainesville music scene and is ever growing. Mr. Something Something is a Toronto based Afrobeat collective with activist leanings formed in 2003 by childhood friends Larry Graves drums percussion and John MacLean tenor sax . All music is written by Graves, MacLean and lead singer Johan Hultqvist. The band s second album The Edge was nominated for a 2007 Juno Award in the World Music category. The 2007 release Deep Sleep was a collaboration with spoken word artist Ikwunga The Afrobeat Poet, the son of a famous Nigerian writer and tribal chief. Deep Sleep was the most played world music album on Canadian college radio in 2007. He has an unsual background in that he studied law at both the University of ife and the Nigerian law school and then become a stockbroker before eventually heading up the corporate finance department at Prudent Bank a Nigerian Bank which his father S Olagunju Ogundipe a Nigerian economist and Writer founded. But he gave all that up for the love of music. His father then chairman of Prudent Bank, at first objected to this career move, but when none other than L gb j sent him a complimentary ticket to watch his son play at the famous Motherland venue in Lagos , he changed his mind.
