AlexanderForbes, 4th Lord Forbes died 1491 , was the eldest son of William, third lord Forbes, and succeeded his father in or before 1483. The gift of the fine payable to the crown on his marriage was acquired by Margaret, lady Dirleton, who wished him to marry her own daughter, Margaret Ker. But he declined her proposals, and without her consent married Lady Margaret Boyd, daughter of Thomas, earl of Arran . For this he was condemned by the lords auditors on 5 July 1483 to pay Lady Dirleton double the value of his marriage or two thousand merks . He espoused the cause of James III of Scotland James III when the son of that monarch rose in rebellion in 1488 against him. After the king s death at Sauchieburn he was summoned to answer before parliament to a charge of treason and conspiracy, but instead of obeying the summons he exposed the blood stained shirt of the slain king on his spear at Aberdeen, and raised a considerable force there with the object of avenging his death. But his hopes of success were suddenly extinguished by the defeat of the Earl of Lennox with whom he had been acting in concert at Tillymoor , near Stirling, and on submitting to James IV of Scotland James IV , he was pardoned and received into favour. He died about 1491, survived by his widow, who was a granddaughter of James II of Scotland James II , and who in 1509 married David, lord Kennedy, afterwards first earl of Cassilis , but leaving no issue. He was succeeded by his two brothers, Arthur Forbes, 5th Lord Forbes Arthur, fifth lord , and John Forbes, 6th Lord Forbes John, sixth lord Forbes . AlexanderForbes, 4th Lord Forbes of Pitsligo 1678 1762 was a Scottish Jacobitism Jacobite nobleman and refugee, also known as a writer. Life He was the only son of AlexanderForbes, 3rd Lord Forbes of Pitsligo , by Lady Sophia Erskine, third daughter of John, ninth earl of Mar, and was born 22 May 1678. He succeeded to the estates and title on the death of his father in 1691. In early manhood he travelled in France, made the acquaintance of F nelon , and was introduced by him to Madame Guyon and other quietists. Their influence led him to devote attention to the mystical writers. He was an adherent of the Protestant Episcopal Church of Scotland , and a supporter of the exiled Stuart family . He was strongly opposed to the Acts of Union 1707 Act of Union , and on the oath of abjuration being extended to Scotland, ceased to attend Parliament. Having taken part in the Jacobite Rebellion of 1715 he was compelled, after the retreat of Mar, to take refuge on the continent. In 1720 he returned to Scotland, taking up residence mainly at Pitsligo , where he continued a correspondence with the quietists, and engaged in a kind of transcendental devotion. On the outbreak of the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745 , though sixty seven years of age and asthmatic, he took up arms on behalf of the Stuarts. He raised a regiment of cavalry, numbering about a hundred, and composed chiefly of Aberdeenshire gentlemen and their tenants. He arrived at Edinburgh on 8 October 1745, a few days after the Jacobite victory at the battle of Prestonpans . After the defeat at the battle of Culloden he remained in hiding near Pitsligo. Refimprove date May 2010 A Penrose drain is a surgery surgical device, named for the American gynecologist Charles Bingham Penrose 1862 1925 , placed in a wound to drain fluid. It consists of a soft rubber tube placed in a wound area, to prevent the build up of fluid. Common uses A http penrosedrain.net Penrose drain removes fluid from a wound area. Frequently it is put in place by a surgeon after a procedure is complete to prevent the area from accumulating fluid, such as blood, which could serve as a medium for bacteria to grow in. In podiatry , a Penrose drain is often used as a tourniquet during a hallux nail avulsion procedure or ingrown toenail extraction. It can also be used to drain cerebrospinal fluid to treat a hydrocephalus patient. Fluid does not flow within the lumen of the tube but travels around the outside by capillary action. Hence, drainage is relative to the external surface area of the tube. Misuse A Penrose drain can be used to foil DNA profiling DNA blood tests . John Schneeberger , a physician who raped a patient, avoided conviction several times by implanting a 15 cm Penrose drain filled with another man s blood and anticoagulants in his arm. During tests, he several times tricked the laboratory technician into taking the blood sample from the place the tube was planted. ref cite web url http www.cbc.ca news canada story 1999 11 26 saskdr991126.html title Sask. doctor sentenced for rape publisher CBC News date November 10, 2000 accessdate 2011 03 29 ref He was eventually convicted on the basis of DNA samples taken from hair and saliva, and confessed how he had foiled the blood tests.
