A chart pattern is a pattern that is formed within a chart when prices are graphed. In stock and commodity market s trading, chart pattern studies play a large role during technical analysis . When data is plotted there is usually a pattern which naturally occurs and repeats over a period. Chart patterns are used as either reversal or continuation signals. Some people Who date November 2010 claim that by recognizing chart patterns they are able to predict future stock prices and profit by this prediction other people respond by quoting past performance is no guarantee of future results and argue that chart patterns are merely illusion s created by people s subconscious . Certain theories of economics hold that if there were a way to predict future stock prices and profit by it then when enough people used these techniques they would become ineffective and cease to be profitable. On the other hand, predicting what others will predict the market will do, would be valuable information. Image Curveasy.jpg thumb 200 px right A slide chart is a hand held device, usually of paper, cardboard, or plastic, for conducting simple calculations or looking up information. A circular slide chart is sometimes referred to as a wheel chart or Volvelle . Unlike other hand held mechanical calculating devices such as slide rules and addiator s, which have been replaced by electronic calculators and computer software, wheel charts and slide charts have survived to the present time. There are a number of companies who design and manufacture these devices. Unlike the general purpose mechanical calculators, slide charts are usually devoted to carrying out a particular specialized calculation, or displaying information on a single product or a particular process. For example, the CurveEasy wheel chart displays information related to spherical geometry calculations and the Prestolog calculator is used for cost profit calculations. Another example of a wheel chart is the Planisphere , which shows the location of stars in the sky for a given location, date, and time. Slide charts are often associated with particular sports, political campaigns or commercial companies. For example, a pharmaceutical company may create wheel charts printed with their company name and product information for distribution to medical practitioners. Slide charts are common collectables. Orphan date February 2009 Wikify date April 2010 A spaghetti chart is a graphical aid used in lean manufacturing activities. It is used to detail the actual physical flow and distances involved in a work process. Processes that have not been streamlined frequently are poorly laid out with work product taking a path through the work area that looks like a mass of cooked spaghetti . A spaghetti chart often traces the walking patterns of workers in a process, ranging from manufacturing settings to healthcare. To create a spaghetti chart you first create a scale map of a work station or work process. The next step is to draw a line from the initial point of work to the next step, then the third step, and so on until the work product exits the work area. Examination of this resulting chart will show where improvements are to be made. Using the information provided by the process chart is to be used to physically relocate work steps so that work product does not backtrack at any point and proceeds in a linear fashion. A common end layout resulting from using a spaghetti chart is a U shaped workstation where material enters on one end and exits in parallel fashion with all work steps completed. The u chart differs from the c chart in that it accounts for the possibility that the number or size of inspection units for which nonconformities are to be counted may vary. Larger samples may be an economic necessity or may be necessary to increase the area of opportunity in order to track very low nonconformity levels. ref cite book last Montgomery first Douglas title Introduction to Statistical Quality Control publisher John Wiley & Sons , Inc. year 2005 location Hoboken, New Jersey pages 294 url http www.eas.asu.edu masmlab montgomery isbn 9780471656319 oclc 56729567 ref Examples of processes suitable for monitoring with a u chart include Monitoring the number of nonconformities per lot of raw material received where the lot size varies Monitoring the number of new infections in a hospital per day Monitoring the number of accidents for delivery trucks per day As with the c chart, the Poisson distribution is the basis for the chart and requires the same assumptions.
