  1. Jacopo Avanzo

for the Bolognese painter of the same period Jacopo Avanzi Jacopo Avanzo or Avanzi or Da Vanzo, of Verona , has long been confused with Jacopo Avanzi Jacopo degli Avanzi of Bologna but the remains of an inscription in the Cappella San Giorgio point to Verona as the birthplace of Avanzo. He painted decorations, in conjunction with Altichiero da Zevio , in the Cappella San Felice and the Cappella San Giorgio in the Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua church of Sant Antonio at Padua , in 1377. It appears that the principal frescoes in the Cappella San Felice were the work of Altichiero and of those in the Cappella San Giorgio, which were recovered from oblivion in 1837 by Ernst Joachim F rster Dr. E. F rster , the part to be assigned to Altichiero has given rise to much dispute but it is thought by some authorities that Avanzo executed the principal portion. The frescoes represent the earlier part of the History of our Lord, the Coronation of the Virgin, the Crucifixion, and Legends of St. George, St. Catharine, and St. Lucy. They prove the painter to have been an artist of no common genius, and Franz Theodor Kugler Kugler , in his description of them, speaks of his art as being above that of his contemporaries. Avanzo also painted two triumphal processions in a public hall of Verona, which have long since perished. He died about the end of the 14th century. 1. Master of the Bamberg Altar

File Meister des Imhoff Altars 001.jpg thumb upright Man of Sorrows c. 1420 . Oil on wood, 116 75 cm. In the collection of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum . Formerly attributed to the Master of the Imhoff Altar , this painting is now believed to be by the Master of the Bamberg Altar The Master of the Bamberg Altar fl . ca. 1420 1440 was a Germany German painter active in the Nuremberg area. His name is derived from an altarpiece depicting scenes from the Passion Christianity Passion , painted in 1429 for the Franciscan church in Bamberg this may be seen today in the Bavarian National Museum in Munich . Stylistically, the painting appears to be descended from the work of the Nuremberg Master of the Altarpiece of the Virgin. The Master collaborated with the Master of the Imhoff Altar in the creation of the eponym ous altarpiece his depiction of the Man of Sorrows with the Mary, mother of Jesus Virgin and John the Apostle Saint John forms the reverse panel. This is a characteristic example of his solemn and simple style. Another, more restrained work is the Man of Sorrows Standing with the Virgin , today in the Germanisches Nationalmuseum . The Master of the Bamberg Altar seems to have depended strongly on facial types and figure styles derived from Bohemia n painting he seems especially to have known the work of the Master of the T ebo Altarpiece , although his figures are more block like and solid and less elegant than those of the latter artist. He would appear to be moving away from the International Gothic and towards a more Italy Italian derived style, based especially on work from Altichiero . Among the local artists who appear to have derived some of their style from the Master is Sebald Bopp . There will be no peace among the religions without dialogue among the religions. Hans K ng , Swiss Catholic priest, theologian, and author. Catholic peace traditions begin with the ideas and practice of peace in the Catholic Church from its biblical and classical origins to its current practice into the 21st century. Because of its long history and breadth of geographical and cultural diversity, this Catholic tradition encompasses many strains and influences of both religious and secular peacemaking and many aspects of Christian pacifism , just war and nonviolence . The history of peacemaking in the Catholic tradition depends on defining and understanding the concept of peace in its past and present usage, based on contemporary dictionary definitions, the Greek word for peace, eirene , Roman pax , Roman ideas of virtue and dominance, and shalom , the meaning of peace in the Hebrew Bible . Definitions wiktionary peace The religious meanings of peace, as in the New Catholic Encyclopedia , are where peace also has internal and external meanings but where these meanings are tied to positive virtues, such as love, and to the personal and social works of justice.
