    Andrew Arthur Hughes 21 January 1902 &ndash 1 July 1996 was an Australian politician. Born in South Yarra to brickmaker George Alfred Hughes and Eliza Smartt, Hughes attended Brighton State School and then the College of the Bible in Glen Iris, Victoria Glen Iris , becoming a minister of religion. He spent the years from 1926 to 1933 as a missionary for the Church of Christ in India , and on his return became a probation officer with the Children s Courts. In 1939 he became minister of a church in Swanston Street. In 1943 he was elected to the seat of Electoral district of Caulfield Caulfield in the Victorian Legislative Assembly as an Independent Socialist, serving until his defeat in 1945. He joined the Australian Labor Party in 1946 and was preselected to contest the federal seat of Division of Flinders Flinders in 1949, but the state executive refused to endorse his candidature and expelled him after he stood as an Independent Labor candidate. He was readmitted to the party in 1955 and contested Division of Higgins Higgins . On 15 July 1926 he had married Eleanor Wynne Morris, with whom he had two children. He moved to Japan in 1957 to teach and worked for Japan Council against A & H Bombs from 1958, becoming highly active in the Japanese anti war movement. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1922 to 1927, and again from 1932 to 1936. Foster was born in Enterprise, Ontario Enterprise , Ontario , and educated in that province. He worked as a farmer. He was first elected to the Manitoba legislature in the Manitoba general election, 1922 1922 provincial election . Running as a candidate of the United Farmers of Manitoba UFM in the Killarney Manitoba riding Killarney constituency, he defeated his Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba Conservative opponent G.W. Waldon by 202 votes. The UFM unexpectedly won a majority of seats in this election, and formed government as the Progressive Party of Manitoba Progressive Party . Foster was a backbench supporter of John Bracken s government. In the Manitoba general election, 1927 1927 provincial election , Foster lost to Conservative candidate John Laughlin by 255 votes. He was returned to the legislature in the Manitoba general election, 1932 1932 election , defeating Laughlin by 90 votes. Prior to this election, the Progressive Party had formed an electoral alliance with the Manitoba Liberal Party , and government members became known as Liberal Progressives .     Andrew William Henry White 1858? &ndash 3 November 1936 was an Australian politician. Born in South Melbourne, Victoria South Melbourne , White attended Williamstown Grammar School before becoming a clerk with the Colonial Bank of Australasia Colonial Bank in 1874, managing the Fitzroy, Victoria Fitzroy branch from 1879 and the Echuca, Victoria Echuca branch from 1883. He resigned from the bank in 1885 to join James Shackell in the Echuca auctioneering firm Shackell, White & Co. In 1886 he married Mary Leonard, with whom he had two sons. He was mayor of Echuca from 1893 to 1894 and from 1906 to 1907. In 1894 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the member for Electoral district of Rodney Rodney , serving until 1897. He purchased the Wharparilla station in 1907 and was Rochester shire president from 1919 to 1929.
