AndrewRobertson 1815 &ndash 21 March 1880 was a lawyer and author of legal works. Robertson emigrated to the United States with his family at the age of 17 and they spent considerable time there before moving north to Sherbrooke, Quebec . He, along with two brothers, pursued careers in the legal profession. He practiced law with both brothers at various times in Montreal and had a prosperous career. Also, he attained an appointment as queen s counsel in 1864. At that time he began producing some important legal works. For example, with Judge Joseph Ubalde Beaudry he compiled the Lower Canada Reports D cisions des tribunaux du Bas Canada , an important reference work for legal precedents. Robertson was a governor of McGill University and left part of his estate to the library at the Faculty of Law. AndrewRobertson 18 June 1827 &ndash 29 March 1890 was a businessman and public servant in Montreal, Quebec. Robertson was born and raised in Scotland and had a successful business career in Glasgow before immigrated with his family to Canada in 1853. He had continued success in a variety of dry goods businesses in Montreal. Andrew also became active in politics and a bi product of his Tory affiliations was an appointment to the Montreal Harbour Commission by Sir John A. Macdonald in 1878. He soon was made chairman and held this position until his death. While he had many major achievements in business and in the community, AndrewRobertson s most notable achievement was with the harbour commission. He dealt with a large deficit that he had inherited and undertook improvements to the harbour that kept it competitive in the shipping industry. He is a graduate of Manchester University , with a first class honours degree He was a demonstrator and tutor at the university. He investigated mild steel with Gilbert Cook . During World War I , he worked at the Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough Airfield . He was appointed Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bristol .
