  1. Annals of Inisfallen

The Annals of Inisfallen are a chronicle of the Middle Ages medieval history of Ireland . There are more than 2,500 entries spanning the years between AD 433 and AD 1450, but it is believed to have been written between the 12th and 15th centuries. It was written by the monk s of Innisfallen Abbey, on Innisfallen Island on Lakes of Killarney Lough Leane , near Killarney . Kathleen Hughes historian Kathleen Hughes conjectured that the Annals are among those derived from the hypothetical The Chronicle of Ireland Chronicle of Ireland . As well as the chronological entries, the manuscript contains a short, fragmented narrative of the history of pre Christian Ireland, known as the pre Patrician section . This section has many elements in common with Lebor Gab la renn . The annals are now housed in the Bodleian Library in Oxford . In 2001, Brian O Leary, a Fianna F il councillor in Killarney, called for the annals to be returned to the town. They are to be distinguished from the misnamed 18th century compilation known as the Dublin Annals of Inisfallen . 1. Annals of Boyle

The Annals of Boyle , also Cottonian Annals , are a chronicle of Middle Ages medieval Ireland . The entries span the years up to 1253. It is considered one of the works that forms The Chronicle of Ireland , although in summary form compared to others. Robin Flower wrote in Revue Celtique 44 1927 344 The MS is the original chronicle of the Premonstratensian house of the Holy Trinity on the Island named after it in Loch C , founded on an earlier chronicle, perhaps that of Boyle, County Roscommon Boyle . It remained in Holy Trinity till the secularization of that house, being used by the writers of the Annals of Lough C Annals of Loch C , who worked for the MacDermots. It passed into the hands of the Croftons with the other property of the house, and while in their hands was seen by Ussher, who probably called it the Annals of Boyle, which it has been known as ever since. From the Croftons, it passed to Oliver St John, 1st Viscount Grandison Oliver St. John, Viscount Grandison of Limerick , who gave it to Sir Robert Bruce Cotton Sir Robert Cotton before 1630 and, with his library, it came into the British Museum in 1753 with a number of other Irish manuscripts and manuscripts of Irish interest. The Annals used the Irish language , with some entries in Latin . Because the Annals copied its sources verbatim, the annals are useful not just for historians, but also for linguists studying the evolution of the Irish language. 1. Annals of Connacht

Use dmy dates date April 2012 The Annals of Connacht , covering the years 1224 to 1544, are drawn from a manuscript compiled in the 15th and 16th centuries by at least three scribes, all believed to be members of the Clan Duibhgeann in . The early sections, commencing with the death of King Cathal Crobdearg Ua Conchobair of Connacht, are exceptionally detailed and give a good account of Connacht affairs during the 13th and early to mid 14th century, particularly for the families of Conchobhair and Burke surname Burke . The accounts however become more desultory, especially for the 16th century. Nevertheless it is an invaluable document relating much that would have otherwise remained utterly obscure or unknown in the history of Connacht, and Ireland in general. A comparison between it and the Annals of Clonmacnoise reveal a common source, or perhaps one is a partial copy of the other. 1. Annals of Aman

Unreferenced date December 2009 Portal Middle earth The Annals of Aman is a text written by J. R. R. Tolkien that serves as a chronology of fictional events taking place in his invented world of Middle earth . This text is reproduced in Morgoth s Ring , the tenth volume of Christopher Tolkien s The History of Middle earth series. Textual History The Annals of Aman dates to the period following the completion of The Lord of the Rings . There are three extant versions of the text, including a carefully emended manuscript, a typescript and its carbon copy each featuring different corrections and notes, and a typescript of the earlier sections of the text that deviates from the previous typescript. Christopher Tolkien surmises that the first typescript was composed in 1958. A reworking of the earlier Annals of Valinor which was the working title of the manuscript until Tolkien changed it and connected closely with the narrative of the incomplete 1937 Quenta Silmarillion , The Annals of Aman moves from a compressed narrative style to a fuller accounting of the events of the chronology. Fictional Context The Annals of Aman presents the history of the world from the entry of the Valar into Arda Middle earth Arda until the Hiding of Valinor after the revolt and exile of the Noldor in the form of year by year entries of varying lengths, much in the style of real world annal s. Tolkien attributes the work to the Noldorin lore master and linguist List of Middle earth Elves R mil R mil of Tirion . According to the second typescript, The Annals of Aman were remembered by the Noldorin Exiles in Middle earth, who transmitted their knowledge to the Men of N menor , whence it eventually reached Arnor and Gondor .
