  1. Annual cycle

Refimprove date December 2009 Annual cycle refers to the set of changes or events that uniformly, or consistently, take place at the same time of year. In biology , the annual cycle for plants and animals details behaviorial and chemical changes that take place as the seasons advance. ref McNamara, John M. and Houston, Alasdair I. 2008 Introduction Adaptation to the annual cycle Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London B Biological Sciences 363 1490   pp.  209&ndash 210 ref In religion , the annual cycle refers to the various celebrations or memorials that occur in the same sequence from year to year. For example, Christianity has two annual cycles, the temporal cycle that tracks the events in the life of Christ , and the sanctoral cycle which tracks the various saint s days. Some Christian churches only observe the temporal cycle . ref Flesher, Paul http uwacadweb.uwyo.edu religionet er christ ctime.htm Christian Time and Worship Exploring Religions University of Wyoming ref In climatology , an annual cycle is the part of a measured quantity s fluctuation that is attributed to Earth s changing position in orbit over the course of the year. Such quantities might be influenced directly e.g. incoming solar radiation at a point at the surface or indirectly e.g. stratosphere stratospheric westerlies and polar easterlies easterlies over the winter and summer hemispheres, respectively by orbital position. Mathematically, the climatological annual cycle is commonly estimated from observational data or model output by taking the average of all Januaries, all Februaries, and so forth. If the observational record is long enough and conditions are stationary i.e. there is no significant long term trend , a meaningful annual cycle will result that can be used to calculate an anomaly time series . 1. Annual calendar

An annual calendar is a representation of the year that expires with the year represented, or that must be altered annually to remain current. The term takes different but related meanings across two contexts. One is for static synchronic calendars, such as wall calendars or calendar systems. The other is for dynamic diachronic calendars, such as digital calendars or timepieces. Static representations of the Gregorian calendar year are annual, because the weekdays of Gregorian dates vary from year to year. The calendar representing one year will not serve for the next year. With perennial calendar s, the same representation of the year serves for every year. Perpetual calendar s, in this context, are computation devices for determining the weekdays of dates in any given year, or for representing a wide range of annual calendars. 1. Annual giving

unreferenced date December 2006 Annual giving is one of the most important areas in an organization s fundraising efforts. Annual giving consists of many separate solicitation vehicles. When these vehicles are assembled together with skill, they can form the foundation of the institution s philanthropic support. The entire structure of the charitable giving process is presented graphically with the diagram of a pyramid. When the process is successful, the donors will move from annual giving to major gifts and then to estate law estate or planned giving, but only if the foundation of the pyramid is firmly in place, well aligned, and able to carry the added weight placed on it. A university or non profit organization builds upward as it prepares for its future. Annual giving programs are needed to make that upward structuring possible. Annual giving is about donor acquisition, repeating the gift and upgrading the gift. Annual giving creates the habit of giving on a regular yearly basis. Donors who have consistently contributed annually over a certain period of time eventually make much larger major giving major gifts or even planned giving , like bequest s, later in life. Methods to raise annual giving support include direct mail solicitations, telemarketing phonathons , e solicitations, and sometimes major asks .
