  1. Antarctic Circumpolar Wave

The Antarctic Circumpolar Wave is a coupled ocean Earth s atmosphere atmosphere wave that circles the Southern Ocean in approximately eight years. Since it is a wave 2 phenomenon there are two ridge meteorology ridges and two trough meteorology troughs in a Circle of latitude latitude circle at each fixed point in space a signal with a simple harmonic motion period of four years is seen. The wave moves eastward with the Ocean current prevailing currents . Note that although the wave is seen in temperature , atmospheric pressure , sea ice and ocean height, the variations are hard to see in the raw data and need to be filtered to become apparent. Because the reliable record for the Southern Ocean is short since the early 1980s and signal processing is needed to reveal its existence, some climatologist s doubt the existence of the wave. Others accept its existence but say that it varies in strength over decades. The wave was discovered simultaneously by Warren White oceanographer Warren White and R G Peterson and Jacobs and Mitchell in 1996. Since then, ideas about the wave structure and maintenance mechanisms have changed and grown by some accounts it is now to be considered as part of a global ENSO wave. 1. Circumpolar constellation

Unreferenced date December 2009 In astronomy , circumpolar constellation s are those that, from the viewer s latitude, never set. This is a very important effect to be considered in astronomy. It is different from seasonal constellations . Circumpolar constellations stay in the sky. Because of the rotation of the Earth and its orbit around the Sun, we divide the stars and constellations into two groups. Some stars and constellations never rise nor set, and they are called circumpolar. All the rest are divided into seasonal stars and constellations. Which stars and constellations will be circumpolar and which seasonal depends on your latitude. In the northern hemisphere, we will always be able to see stars and constellations in the northern circumpolar sky, while in the southern hemisphere, we will always be able to see stars and constellations in the southern circumpolar sky. The celestial north pole, currently marked by Polaris , always has an azimuth equal to zero. Also, its altitude for a given place is fixed and its value is given by the following formula A 90 . All stars with a declination less than A are not circumpolar. They are also visible year round at that location. From the North Pole , all constellations north of the celestial equator , all fully visible constellations are circumpolar, and similarly from the South Pole . From the equator , there are no circumpolar constellations. From mid north latitudes 40 50 N , circumpolar constellations may include Ursa Major , Ursa Minor , Draco constellation Draco , Cepheus constellation Cepheus , Cassiopeia constellation Cassiopeia and Camelopardalis constellation Camelopardalis . Antarctic waters predominantly sink beneath subantarctic waters, while associated zones of mixing and upwelling create a zone very high in marine productivity, especially for Antarctic krill . This line, like the Arctic tree line , is a natural boundary rather than an artificial one, like a line of latitude. It not only separates two hydrology hydrological regions , but also separates areas of distinctive marine life associations and of different climate s. There is no Arctic equivalent, due to the amount of land surrounding the northern polar region. History The Antarctic Convergence was first crossed by Anthony de la Roch in 1675, ref R.K.
