Pythodoros originally came from Tralles modern Ayd n , Turkey . Not much is known about his family. He was a friend to the late Roman triumvir Pompey . Pythodoros became the first son in law of the Ancient Rome Roman triumvir Mark Antony . In 36 BC, Pythodoros had married to one of Antony s eldest children, his daughter Antonia daughter of Mark Antony Antonia . Antonia was the daughter and only child from the triumvir s second marriage to his paternal cousin Antonia Hybrida Minor. His wife was about 20 years younger than he was. The reason that Antony arranged for Pythodoros to marry his daughter was to hopefully gain some of Pythodoros wealth for his war chest in his campaign to invade Parthia . Alypia floruit 467 472 was a noblewoman of the Western Roman Empire , daughter of the Western Roman Emperor Anthemius . Life Alypia was the only daughter of Anthemius and Aelia Marcia Euphemia , and grand daughter of the Eastern Roman Emperor Marcian . The Eastern Roman Emperor Leo I emperor Leo I appointed Anthemius Western Emperor in 467, and so Alypia s marriage became an important moment in Anthemius rule. Anthemius married his daughter to Ricimer , the magister militum of the West and power behind the throne the aim of this bond was to strengthen the relationship between Anthemius and his magister militum , who had already deposed three Western Emperors. However Alypia s marriage did not bring peace between the Emperor and his general, possibly because the two of them had no children. In April 472, Ricimer appointed Olybrius as Emperor, in opposition to Anthemius, who, together with his family, was besieged in Rome. Around middle July, Anthemius and his family were captured by Ricimer Anthemius was beheaded, while no information is known about Alypia. In the numismatic collection of Dumbarton Oaks there is a coin, a solidus coin solidus on which Euphemia and Alypia are depicted. Here Alypia s figure is smaller than her mother s, as a sign of respect, but the two women dress the same vestments, those typical of the augusta honorific augusta it is therefore possible that both Euphemia and Alypia were appointed augustae . He was born in Hamburg, Germany , and was educated at the Georg August University of G ttingen University of G ttingen beginning in 1783. He became a professor at the University of Bern in 1785. In 1810 he became a professor of mathematics at the University of Berlin . In 1798 he served as the Switzerland Swiss representative to the Metric system French metric convocation , and was a member of its committee on weights and measures. An iron committee meter, a duplicate of the prototype archive meter, was then given as a gift to Ferdinand Rudolph Hassler . From 1803 until 1805 these two men worked together on a topological survey of the Cantons of Switzerland Canton of Bern . He was the inventor of the alcoholmeter , a device for measuring the amount of alcohol in a liquid. He died in London, England . Biography Romulus was the son of Anthemius Western Roman Emperor in 467 472 and of Marcia Euphemia . His brothers were Anthemiolus , Marcian usurper Marcian and Procopius Anthemius , his sister was Alypia daughter of Anthemius Alypia . He was a member of the House of Theodosius , as his maternal grandfather, the Eastern Emperor Marcian , had married Pulcheria , granddaughter of Theodosius I . In 479, Romulus and his brother Marcian and Procopius rebelled against the new Eastern Emperor, Zeno emperor Zeno . They asked for the help of Theodoric Strabo , then gathered in Constantinople troops composed by both citizens and foreigners in the house of a Caesarius, south of the Forum of Theodosius , and from there they marched at the same time on the imperial palace and on the house of Illus , an Isaurian general supporter of Zeno. The emperor almost fell in the hands of the rebels, who, during the day, overwhelmed the imperial troops, who were hit also by the citizens from the roofs of their houses. During the night, however, Illus succeeded in moving inside Constantinople an Isaurian unit whose quarters were in the nearby Chalcedonia and in corrupting Marcian s soldiers, who allowed Zeno to flee. On the following morning Romulus and his brothers, understanding that his situation was desperate and that the reinforcements of the Gothic general Theodoric Strabo would have not arrive in time, took refuge in the church of the Holy Apostles , but were arrested.
