It explores a number of sites of Britain s megalith ic heritage, including Stonehenge and Avebury . As well as stone circle s, The Modern Antiquarian includes other megalithic monuments, hill forts, barrows and unusual places. In the introduction Cope explains how a visit to Avebury Stone Circle inspired his enthusiasm for the subject. He was disappointed with the quality of available guidebooks, so decided to write his own. He visited and researched hundreds of sites over eight years, selecting about 300 of the most significant for the book.     The Antiquarian Booksellers Association of Japan ABAJ was established in November 1964 by ten major antiquarian booksellers from Tokyo , Osaka and Kyoto . Japan was experiencing an unprecedented economic growth at the time and Japanese collectors, scholars, and curators were avidly selling and purchasing rare material domestically and internationally.The ABAJ was founded with the aim of developing the Japanese antiquarian book trade to meet an increasingly global age. In 1965, the ABAJ became a member of the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers . Since then, the ABAJ has grown to include thirty members. The ABAJ has been involved in various activities including joint bookfairs by its members, the publication of bibliographical reference works, the sponsoring of lectures on antiquarian books, the organisation of field trips to private and institutional collections, and the donation of books to centers for senior citizens. In 1973 and 1990 the ABAJ hosted two ILAB Congresses and an International Bookfair held in Tokyo.     The Antiquarian Booksellers Association of Austria , formed in 1949, includes those Austria Austrian antiquarian booksellers who exclusively or primarily buy and sell antiquarian books, magazines, prints, autograph letters or music. The members of the Association submit themselves to the Austrian version of the Rules, Customs and Usages of the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers to which the Austrian Association is affiliated. The ILAB http www.ilab.org organisation codeofethics.php code of ethics defines how commercial transactions are to be conducted between Austrian and foreign antiquarian booksellers and also between professionals and individuals. The Antiquarian Booksellers Association of Austria has hosted the biennial ILAB congress three times, the last in 1998. The Association has also hosted the annual President s Meeting several times.     John Hunt 1900 1976 was a historian , antiquarian , and collector. Together with his wife Gertrude, he amassed the collection that today forms the basis of the Hunt Museum , Limerick, Ireland . He encouraged Standish Robert Gage Prendergast Vereker M.C., 7th Viscount Gort Lord Gort to restore Bunratty Castle . He is commemorated by a bust in the castle because of this. He also led to the creation of both the Craggaunowen and Lough Gur visitor centres through his interest in prehistory. The Hunts first settled at Lough Gur,near Limerick and later in Dublin. Remarkably, in both these domestic settings they housed and openly displayed their valuable collection.     William Norris 1719 1791 was an English clergyman and antiquarian . Life He was brother to Robert Norris author Robert Norris . He was elected Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries on 4 April 1754, and that year began to assist Joseph Ames author Joseph Ames as secretary to the society. On Ames s death, in 1759, Norris became sole secretary, and held the post as an effective official until 1786, when he retired on account of ill health. He was for several years corrector for the press to Thomas Baskett , the royal printer. He died in Camden Street, Islington , in November 1791, and was buried in the burial ground of St James, Pentonville , on 29 November.
