  1. Apocryphon of Ezekiel

Apocryphon of Ezekiel is an apocrypha l book, written in the style of the Old Testament , as revelations of Ezekiel . It survives only in fragments including quotations in writings by Epiphanius of Salamis Epiphanius , Clement of Rome and Clement of Alexandria , and the Chester Beatty Papyri 185. It is likely to have been composed circa 50 BC 50 AD , although some scholars suggest a date closer to 70 CE. The largest fragment tells of a king who holds a feast to which he invites everyone except two beggars, a blind man and a cripple. The two are angry and determine to have their revenge the cripple sits on the blind man s shoulders, and together they damage the king s orchard, but the king discovers what they have done and punishes them both. The moral of the story, according to the narrator, is that this proves the resurrection of the body, since soul and body must function together. Pseudo Ezekiel , one of the Dead Sea Scrolls , is possibly further fragments of this text, or it may be a different work concerning Ezekiel, but it is difficult to tell. 1. Mount Hazor

Orphan date February 2009 Mount Hazor in Hebrew Ramat Hazor is an irregularally shaped plateau, marking the geographical boundary between Samaria to its north and Judea to its south. Its peak, called Baal hazor in Hebrew and Tell Asur in Arabic reaches approx. 1,020 meters above sea level . Its name is derived from the word for courtyard , referring to the walled enclosures that this large land mass enabled ancients to construct. The peak housed a pagan chapel for worship of the Baal , who was considered lord of the mountain hence its name Baal hazor . The Genesis Apocryphon of the Dead Sea scrolls identifys Ramat Hazor as the site between Bethel and Ai biblical Ai where Abraham built an altar and called upon i.e. invoked the name of God Gen. 12 1 9 . At this site the accounts of Book of Genesis Genesis s Bible American Standard Genesis Chapter 12 13 took place 14 Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art, northward and southward and eastward and westward 15 for all the land which thou see, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever. 16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth So that if a man can count the dust of the earth, then may thy seed also be counted. 17 Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it for unto you will I give it. 1. Mar Samuel

For the third century Talmudist Samuel of Nehardea Unreferenced date October 2007 Metropolitan bishop Metropolitan Athanasius Yeshue Samuel 1909 1995 , more often referred to as Mar Samuel , was a Metropolitan and Archbishop of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch, as well as a central figure in the discovery of the Dead Sea scrolls . In 1947, while Metropolitan of Jerusalem of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch also known as the Syrian Orthodox Church , Mar Samuel received news that some ancient texts had been discovered. Samuel arranged to see the scrolls. After examining them, and suspecting that they were indeed very old, Mar Samuel expressed an interest in purchasing them. All four scrolls that had been then discovered would find their way into his possession, including the now famous Isaiah scroll Isaiah Scroll , the Community Rule , the Habakkuk Commentary Habakkuk Peshar , and the Genesis Apocryphon . The scrolls were sold to Mar Samuel by Kando, an antiquities dealer. Following the end of the British mandate over Palestine and Transjordan and the outbreak of hostilities between Arabs and Jews, Mar Samuel relocated to the United States in 1949, and played a major role in the life of the Syriac Orthodox Church in North America. From 1952, he served as Patriarchal Vicar to the United States and Canada, and from 1957, as Archbishop of the newly created Archdiocese of the United States and Canada. 1. Exegesis on the Soul

Refimprove date March 2011 The Exegesis on the Soul is one of the ancient texts found at Nag Hammadi , in Nag Hammadi Codex II Codex II . Its purpose is to teach that the soul is a woman which fell from perfection into prostitution, and that the Father will elevate her again to her original perfect state. ref cite web url http www.gnosis.org naghamm exe.html title The Nag Hammadi Library The Exegesis on the Soul publisher HarperCollins date accessdate 2011 03 05 ref According to Irenaeus , this teaching was a foundational pillar of the doctrine of Simon Magus , which Simon viewed as so important that he actually married a prostitute and elevated her in society in order to demonstrate the point. Hence, it is possible that the text was written by the Simonian school of Gnostics . The text quotes copiously from the Old Testament prophets, from the New Testament gospels, and from the epistles of Paul. Curiously, the text also quotes from Homer s Odyssey . These quotes indicate that the author viewed Greek legend and mythology as a type of scripture, just as the author also viewed large portions of the Old and New Testaments as scripture. The author and date are not certain, but must be sometime between the 1st century and the 4th century CE. Or date March 2011 Although it is silent concerning the typical Gnostic cosmology, its placement in the same codex with such texts as the Apocryphon of John , Hypostasis of the Archons , and On the Origin of the World indicate that it may well have been produced by a school which accepted Gnostic cosmology. In this context, the female personification of the soul resembles the passion of Sophia, which is a theme pervasively found in Gnostic cosmology. Also, the text s placement toward the back of the codex may indicate that it was written later and or was of relatively lesser importance than the other texts in the codex.
