Apollo 21 is an apocrypha l reference to an eleventh manned Moon landing mission of NASA s Apollo program . Apollo contracted for the construction of fifteen Saturn V launch vehicles used to launch the Apollo spacecraft to the Moon, and achieved the first manned landing with the sixth one Apollo 11 , leaving nine for follow on lunar missions, through Apollo 20. However, budget cuts caused NASA to cancel the last three missions, ending the lunar program after Apollo 17 . One Saturn V was used to launch the Skylab space station, and parts of the other two became museum displays. An Apollo 21 lunar landing mission appears in two twenty first century works of fiction. Possible origin The Apollo program used a Saturn V to launch the first manned test of the complete Apollo spacecraft, consisting of the Apollo Command Service Module and a separate Apollo Lunar Module landing craft in a low Earth orbit, on the Apollo 9 mission. However, the original plan for this test would have used two launches of the smaller Saturn IB Earth orbital launch vehicle the first would launch the crew in the Command Service Module, followed shortly by a second, unmanned launch of the Lunar Module, with which the crew would rendezvous in orbit. Some people have speculated that tentative plans of an Apollo 21 might have been made assuming availability of the extra Saturn V this would have left, although by the time NASA resumed planning manned missions using this numbering sequence defined on April 24, 1967 ... first3 Courtney G. authorlink coauthors title Vol.11, part 1 1967 Mar Apr work NASA SP 4009 The Apollo ... first3 Courtney G. authorlink coauthors title Vol.11, part 2F November 1967 work NASA SP 4009 The Apollo ... Image Bratislava 14.jpg thumb Apollo Bridge from the Petr alka side Apollo Bridge lang sk Most Apollo , provisionally known as Most Ko ick during construction, after the street leading to it in Bratislava is a road bridge over the Danube in the capital of Slovakia . The bridge was opened to the public on September 5, 2005. It is named for the Apollo modern successor Slovnaft oil refinery which was situated on the left river bank in this area before World War II . Its curved lines, inclined arches and virtual absence of right angles make the geometric shape of the bridge very sophisticated. In an unprecedented maneuver, the 5,240 ton steel structure, spanning 231 metres, was rotated across the river from its construction site on the left bank into its final position on a pillar 40 metres from the right bank. The Apollo Bridge was the only European project named one of five finalists for the 2006 Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award OPAL Award by the American Society of Civil Engineers .
