  1. Parable

a moral content, such as the apologue and the allegory , although this distinction has not always been clear. The apologue is a type of fable which is intended to express a simple moral lesson. Like the apologue, the parable generally relates a single, simple, consistent action, without a great deal of circumstantial detail. And like the apologue, the parable expresses a moral lesson. 1. Apologeticus

Apologeticus or Apologeticum ref The early texts do not agree on the title Bardenhewer . ref is Tertullian s most famous work, ref Unlike the very scattered and imperfect manuscripts of Tertullian, only the Apologeticum has come down in numerous codices, some of them quite ancient Bardenhewer . ref consisting of apologetic and polemic it was written in Carthage in the summer or autumn of 197 AD, during the reign of Septimius Severus . ref The actual date is doubtful or much disputed there are no certain points of comparison Bardenhewer . ref In this work Tertullian defends Christianity , demanding legal toleration and that Christians be treated as all other sects of the Roman Empire . It is in this treatise that one finds the phrase the blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church Apologeticus , Chapter 50 . ref A similar theme, but concerning Mexican Revolutionaries, is depicted in Diego Rivera s mural La sangre de los martires revolucionarios fertilizando la tierra The Blood of the Revolutionary Martyrs Fertilizing the Earth . ref Apologeticus is ostensibly addressed to the provincial governors of the Roman empire that the truth, being forbidden to defend itself publicly, may reach the ears of the rulers by the hidden path of letters and thus bears resemblance to the Apologue Greek apologues . Its readership is more likely to have been composed of Christians, whose faith was reinforced through Tertullian s defense against rationalizations and rumours. The Apologeticus is calm in tone, a model of judicial discussion , according to Tertullian s modern editor Otto Bardenhewer . Unlike previous apologists of Christianity, whose appeals for tolerance were made in the name of reason and humanity, Tertullian, influenced by his legal training, spoke as a jurist convinced of the injustice of the laws under which the Christians were persecuted. The Apologeticus was written before the edict of Septimius Severus 202 , and consequently, the laws to which the writer took exce ...   more details

  1. Richard Holland

other people Richard Holland or Richard de Holande floruit fl. 1450 , Scotland Scottish writer, author of the Buke of the Howlat , was secretary or chaplain to Archibald Douglas, Earl of Moray c. 1450 and rector of Halkirk , near Thurso . He was afterwards rector of Abbreochy, Loch Ness , and later held a chantry in the cathedral of Norway. He was an ardent partisan of the Douglases, and on their over throw retired to Orkney and later to Shetland . He was employed by Edward IV of England Edward IV in his attempt to rouse the Western Isles through Douglas agency, and in 1482 was excluded from the general pardon granted by James III of Scotland James III to those who would renounce their fealty to the Douglases. The poem, entitled the Buke of the Howlat , written about 1450, shows his devotion to the house of Douglas On ilk beugh till embrace Writtin in a bill was O Dowglass, O Dowglass Tender and trewe ii. 400 403 . and is dedicated to the wife of a Douglas Thus for ane Dow of Dunbar drew I this Dyte, Dowit with ane Dowglass, and boith war thei dowis. But all theories of its being a political allegory in favour of that house may be discarded. Sir Walter Scott s judgment that the Buke is a poetical apologue ... without any view whatever to local or natural politics is certainly the most reasonable. The poem, which extends to fool lines written in the irregular alliteration alliterative rhymed stanza , is a bird allegory, of the type familiar in the Parlemsnt of Foules . It has the incidental interest of showing especially in stanzas 62 and 63 the antipathy of the Inglis speaking Scot to the Scots speaking Gael of the west, as is also shown in William Dunbar Dunbar s Flyting with Kennedy . The text of the poem is preserved in the Asloan Manuscript Asloan c. 1515 and Bannatyne Manuscript Bannatyne 1568 manuscripts, though the poem is thought to be 50 70 years older than the earlier manuscript. 1. Sergio Atzeni

Sergio Atzeni Capoterra 1952 Carloforte 1995 was an Italy italian writer. Born in Capoterra , southern Sardinia , he moved to Cagliari where, as a journalist, he worked for some of the most important Sardinian newspapers. He also became a member of the Italian Communist Party , but later left the party, being disullusioned with politics. In 1986, he left Sardinia and travelled across Europe, but in the last part of his life he settled in Turin where he wrote his most important novels, including Il figlio di Bakun n Bakunin s Son , Passavamo sulla terra leggeri and Il quinto passo l addio . In 1995, he died in Carloforte while swimming in the sea during a holiday back in Sardinia. All of Atzeni s works are set in Sardinia and were written in Italian. He experimented different techniques and styles across his novels. Most notably, he used a very original language that fused elegant literary Italian and the patter used by the working class in Cagliari and Sardinia, where many words and sayings are borrowed from the Sardinian language . In this way Atzeni reproduces the immediacy of the spoken language in his novels. In some of his novels e.g. Il quinto passo e l addio he also used techniques akin to the magic realism style of many Southern American authors, where fantastic elements appear in the realistic setting. Most of his novels have been translated in French, but only one, Bakunin s Son, has been translated in English. It seems that the native mythology of Cantabria connected, from the beginning and with the passing of the years, with Celtic mythology Celtic and Roman mythology becoming partly related with legend s and tradition s from the rest of the Cantabrian Mountains . In most cases its deeper meaning, passed from parents to children through oral tradition , has been diluted, either because this meaning has been lost or because the classic writers didn t gather all the popular wealth and mentality of the time, paying attention only to cult s and divinity divinities that were similar to theirs. On the other hand, the Romanization and later incursion of Christianism transformed the sense and representation of these Paganism pagan rites, reaching in many cases Syncretism religious syncretism .
