    The Apostolic Prefecture of Yukon or Prefecture Apostolic of the Yukon Prince Rupert , lang la Praefectura Apostolica Yuconensis et Principis Ruberti was a Catholic missionary jurisdiction in the extreme northwestern portion of Canada from 1908 until 1916, then a Vicariate Apostolic until 1967. History Extending from 54 North latitude to the Arctic Ocean and from the summit of the Rocky mountains to 141 West longitude, it covered an area of about 312,000 sq. miles. The prefecture comprised two distinct districts, the Yukon Territory and the northern part of British Columbia , which, prior to the erection of the new prefecture, belonged to different jurisdictions the former being attached to the Vicariate of Mackensie River and the latter to the Diocese of New Westminster . The prefecture was established on March 9, 1908, and entrusted to the Oblate Fathers of Mary Immaculate . The first prefect, Rev. E. M. Bunoz, was appointed on April 8 of the same year. At Dawson, the metropolis of the Klondike Gold Rush Klondike gold fields , the first house of worship Church of St. Mary and first hospital, both log buildings, were erected in 1907 1908 by the Jesuit Father Judge d. at Dawson City, Yukon Dawson , 1899 . The Oblate Father Gendreau, who succeeded Father Judge, enlarged and transformed the rough church besides establishing the first school of the territory. This school was rebuilt on a larger scale in the centre of the town in 1901 under the present prefect, who succeeded Father Gendreau in 1902. It was erected as a simple mission in 1901, and detached, as a prefecture Apostolic , from the Vicariate of Belgian Congo , on 20 August 1901. The residence of the prefect Apostolic was the mission of St. Joseph de Luluabourg, situated a few miles to the south of the station of the Belgian colony of Luluabourg now Kananga , in the district of Lualaba Kassai , the chief town of which was Lusambo , residence of the district commissioner. The prefecture, at the time of its creation, comprised almost all the Lualaba Kassai district. It was bounded on the north by the Vicariate of Belgian Congo district of the Equateur on the east by the same vicariate territory of the Katanga Company on the south by Portuguese Congo on the west by the Lubue River .     The Roman Catholic Prefecture Apostolic of Kwango was a mission territory in Central Africa set up at the end of the nineteenth century. The Kwango River flows into the Kassai River , which itself is a tributary of the River Congo . This mission missio Kwangensis formed a part of the Vicariate Apostolic of Belgian Congo till April, 1892, when a decree was issued, entrusting this new mission to the Jesuit Fathers of the Belgian province. Emil von Henexthoven 1852 1906 was its first superior. He left Belgium on 6 March 1893 with two fathers, one scholastic, and two lay brothers, and reached the mission towards the end of May. One of the priests died on the way. By decree of 30 January 1903, the Kwango mission was made a prefecture Apostolic Pr fectura Apostolica Kwangensis , the first prefect Apostolic being Father Julian Banckaert, S. J., with residence at Kinsantu , the chief mission station. The prefecture comprised the civil districts of Eastern Kwango and that of Stanley Pool as far to the north as the River Kassai. It was located between 4 to 8 S. latitude and 15 to 20 E. longitude. Its boundaries were to the north the river Kassai, to the east the range of hills between the Rivers Loange River Loange and Jjuma to the south Portuguese territory to the west the River Inkisi and the railway to Kinshasa Leopoldville . History Prior to the establishment of the Apostolic prefecture , the four provinces contained 1000 Catholics belonging to different rites. The prefecture was erected by Propaganda Fide on 17 March, 1887. In 1888 the Rev. Augustin Duret, of the Lyons Society for African Missions, was appointed first prefect Apostolic and the prefecture confided to the care of this society. It had at first only two missionary posts, one at Tantah and the other at Zagazig, but a new post was founded at Zifteh in 1887 and another at Mahalla el Kebir in 1891. About this time the Egyptian capital Cairo , which had already outgrown its former limits, developed considerably on the north, and populous quarters grew up within the Prefecture of the Delta. History The mission of Kwang si comprised the entire Chinese imperial province of that name, a very mountainous and extremely poor region. The province had a population of about ten million souls divided among several distinct races, the most remarkable of whom are the settlers from the Guangzhou Canton , the Hakkas and the wild Yao tse and Miao tse . The first missionary to Kwang si was the Jesuit Father Michele de Ruggieri who in 1583 endeavoured without success to establish himself at the capital, Kweilin . Fifty years later the Franciscan, Francesco d Escalone, arrived at Wu chou. About the middle of the seventeenth century, Father Andrew Xavier Koffler built a church at Kwei lin and baptized at Nan ning , under the name of Constantine, a son of the Emperor Yung li , a pretender to the Ming dynasty , who still combatted in the southern part of the empire the advancing Manchu conquerors.
