  1. Apostolic Brethren

The Apostolic Brethren sometimes referred to as Apostolici , Apostoli , Apostles were a Christianity Christian sect founded in northern Italy in the latter half of the 13th century by Gerard Segarelli , a native of Alzano in the territory of Parma. He was of low birth and without education, applied for membership in the Franciscan order at Parma, and was rejected. Ultimately he resolved to devote himself to the restoration of what he conceived to be the apostolic manner of life. The movement later degenerated in the infamous Dulcinian Dulcinian movement . The Apostolic Brethren are often portrayed as a cult in the media. History About 1260, Segarelli assumed a costume patterned after representations which he had seen of the apostles, sold his house, scattered the price in the market place, and went out to preach repentance as a mendicant brother. He found disciples, and the new order of penitents spread throughout Lombardy and beyond it. At first the Franciscans and other churchmen only scoffed at Segarelli s eccentric ways but about 1280 the Bishop of Parma threw him into prison, then kept him awhile in his palace as a source of amusement, and in 1286 banished him from the diocese. 1. Apostolic Camera

Roman Curia The Apostolic Camera , or in Latin Reverenda Camera Apostolica or Apostolica Camera , is the central board of finance in the Papal administrative system, which at one time was of great importance in the government of the States of the Church , and in the administration of justice, led by the Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church . History Since the middle of the 12th century the Papal chamberlain camerarius domini papae was a regular member of the Curia , entrusted with the financial management of the papal court . At that early period the income of the papal treasury came chiefly from many kinds of census, dues, and tributes paid in from the territory subject to the Pope, and from churches and monasteries immediately dependent on him. Cencius Camerarius later Pope Honorius III , 1216 27 made in 1192 a new inventory of all these sources of papal revenue, known as the Liber Censuum . The previous list dated back to Gelasius I 492 496 and Gregory I 590 604 , and was based on lists of the incomes accruing from the patrimonies, or landed property of the Roman Church. 1. Apostolic Syndic

Orphan date February 2009 An Apostolic Syndic is a Catholic layman, who in the name, and by the authority, of the Holy See, assumes the care and civil administration of the temporalities and in particular the pecuniary alms destined for the support and benefit of Franciscan convents, and thence provides for the requirements of the brethren. History To the Friars Minor , corporate as well as individual ownership was forbidden by the constitution or the rule. During the first years of the order s existence, the literal observance of this precept, being feasible as well as possible, presented no difficulty but as time went on, and the order developed as a vast organization, and spread over the whole world, countless difficulties had to be faced and fierce controversy arose, the quaestio de paupertate lasting for centuries. To preserve and safeguard as far as possible the letter as well as the spirit of the complete expropriation advocated by St. Francis, the popes adopted the fictio juris of assuming to themselves the ownership of all goods bestowed upon the friars. Thus the friars were legally regarded as mere users, the right of property being vested in the Roman pontiff, except in cases where the donors made explicit reservation in their own behalf. But as the civil administration of property in one s own interest is an act of ownership, and this was prohibited by the rule, such administration had to be exercised by a steward appointed, or at least authorized, by the Holy See. According to the Decretal of Nicolas III , Exiit qui seminat art. 12, n. 2 of 14 August 1279, the appointment of the Apostolic Syndic rested with the sovereign pontiff or the order s cardinal protector sometimes bishops acted as their delegates in this matter but Martin IV Exultantes , 18 January 1283 ... the interest of the community in whose favour he acted. 1. Apostolic Dataria

The Apostolic dataria was one of the five Ufficii di Curia curial offices in the Roman Curia . It was abolished by Pope Paul VI in 1967. History According to some authorities, among them Amydenus De officio et jurisdictione datarii necnon de stylo Datariae , the office of the dataria is of very ancient origin, but that it is not appears from the fact that the business which eventually fell to it was originally transacted elsewhere. The Dataria was entrusted, chiefly, with the concession of matrimonial dispensation s of external jurisdiction, and with the collation the abstract of conferring of benefice s reserved to the Holy See . To this double faculty was added that of granting many other indult s and graces, but these additions were made later. Until the time of Pope Pius IV matrimonial dispensations were granted through the Apostolic Penitentiaria and as to the collation of reserved benefices, that authority could not have been granted in very remote times, since the establishment of those reservations is comparatively recent although some vestige of reservations is found even prior to the twelfth century, the custom was not frequent before Innocent II , and only from the time of Pope Clement IV the reservation of benefices was adopted as a general rule c. ii, De pract. et dignit. III, 4 in 6 . It may be said that, while this office certainly existed in the fourteenth century, as an independent bureau, it is impossible to determine the precise time of its creation. 1. Apostolic poverty

Apostolic poverty is a doctrine professed in the thirteenth century by the newly formed religious religious order orders , known as the mendicant order s, in direct response to calls for reform in the Roman Catholic Church . In this, these orders attempted to live their lives without ownership of lands or accumulation of money, following the precepts given to the seventy disciples in the Gospel of Luke 10 1 24 , and succeeding to varying degrees. The ascetic Pope Paschal II s solution of the Investiture Controversy in his radical Concordat of 1111 with the Emperor, repudiated by the cardinals, was that the ecclesiastics of Germany should surrender to the imperial crown their fief s and secular offices. ref Norman F.
