Commented out Image Appletviewer screenshot hello world.png frame right AppletViewer Screenshot on Linux AppletViewer is a standalone, command line program from Sun Microsystems Sun to run Java applet s. Appletviewer is generally used by developers for testing their applets before being deployed to a website . As a Java developer, it is a preferred option for running Java applets that do not involve the use of a web browser . Even though the applet viewer logically takes the place of a web browser, it functions very differently from a web browser. The applet viewer operates on HTML documents, but all it looks for is embedded applet tags any other HTML code in the document is ignored. Each time the applet viewer encounters an applet tag in an HTML document, it launches a separate applet viewer window containing the respective applet. The only drawback to using the applet viewer is that it will not show how an applet will run within the confines of a real web setting. Because the applet viewer ignores all HTML codes except applet tags, it does not even attempt to display any other information contained in the HTML document. Appletviewer is included with Sun s Java Development Kit JDK package, but not with Sun s Java Runtime Environment JRE package. Unreferenced date December 2010 Video IVR is conceptually similar to voice Interactive voice response IVR but with the addition of video to enhance the experience. The user interacts with a real time video stream by pressing DTMF buttons on his terminal typically a mobile handset . Most Video IVR is delivered over 3G video calls but could be delivered over any media that is able to carry voice, video and DTMF signals between the terminal and the Video IVR server. One advantage of Video IVR is that it places all the application logic on the server. The terminal is a thin client. From a compatibility point of view, a Video IVR application need be developed only once to run on all 3G handsets. This is different from delivering applications as Java Sun Java applets which may require over 200 different builds to cater for all the different handsets. Because the application is delivered over a live video call, the user must make a video call to access the application. In some cases this may be undesirable but is generally seen as a benefit as it gives the content holders much greater control over the way their content is accessed. orphan date August 2010 HTML & XHTML The Definitive Guide Fifth Edition is an instruction manual written by Chuck Musciano and Bill Kennedy computer scientist Bill Kennedy , which was published by O Reilly Media in 2002 ISBN 059600382X . Category Books about the Internet For the more up to date coding in HTML and XHTML The authors thoroughly explain HTML and its recently standardized twin XHTML in its latest version 4.01 . They also give a good explication of layout using the current standard CSS2 of Cascading Style Sheets. They spend some time talking about embedded content such as pictures, Java applets and Javascript scripts. They look, too, at XML, which is the meta language used to define XHTML. At the time they wrote this book 2002 the versions of the standardized languages they discuss were in the avant garde. But many of the old ways of doing things are now obsolete, and older browser versions gone. Unfortunately, the authors constantly advert to these early browser versions and their quirks, and spend much time discussing outmoded and non standard techniques that by their own admission should be avoided. Let me emphasize that they whole heartedly approve of the direction away from non standard and layout laden HTML and toward the CSS approach. computer book stub ... more details
