Sharing a very similar name, and the acronym IMA, it should not be confused with the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications , a professional body for mathematicians in the UK. The primary mission of the IMA is to increase the impact of mathematics by fostering interdisciplinary research and linking mathematics and scientific and technological problems from other disciplines and industry. The IMA hosts long term visitors, funds postdoctoral research positions, and holds several conferences annually. The NSF has granted the IMA 19.5 million over the period 2005&ndash 2010, the largest single mathematics grant the NSF has ever awarded. http www1.umn.edu umnnews Feature Stories U math institute recognized for international excellence.html http www.ams.org mathmedia mathdigest md 200508 toc.html 200510 society References http www.siam.org news news.php?id 357 IMA Celebrates 20 Prodigious Years , SIAM News, October 31, 2003. Computer supported telecommunications applications CSTA is an abstraction layer for telecommunications applications. It is independent of underlying protocol computing protocols . It has a telephone device model that enables Computer telephony integration CTI applications to work with a wide range of telephone devices. Originally developed in 1992, it has continued to be developed and refined over the years. It is often the model that most CTI applications are built on and claim compliance with. It became an Open Systems Interconnection OSI standard in July 2000. It is currently being maintained by ECMA International . The core of CSTA is a normalized Call Control model. Additional to the core there are Call Associated features and Physical Device features amongst others. An implementation of the standard need not provide all features, and so Profiles are provided. For example, the Basic Telephony profile provides such features as Make Call, Answer and Clear Connection. History CSTA has seen 3 major revisions to date. Phase 1 1992 Phase 2 1994 Phase 3 1998 Recent developments Phase 3 of the CSTA standard saw the introduction of uaCSTA, CSTA XML and CSTA Object Model extensions. These extensions are in various states of completion but all extend the scope of CSTA. Example of Underlying Protocols Protocols that may be used by CSTA. Multiple issues unreferenced May 2008 confusing May 2008 context May 2008 Office Business Applications OBA are an emerging class of application that helps businesses unlock the value of their Line of Business LOB systems and turn document based processes into real applications. OBAs leverage the power of the Office Business Platform, that is, the clients, servers, services, and tools that comprise the 2007 Microsoft Office system to solve business problems. An Office Business Application OBA is a composite application that uses applications within the Microsoft Office System such as Outlook, Word, or Excel as the front end for a Line of Business LOB application. People typically perform significant additional work outside of the formal processes of a Line of Business LOB system as they collaborate with other people via phone and email , obtain information from multiple sources in the form of documents and spreadsheets, and switch between online and offline modes for meetings and business trips. OBAs help simplify this interaction by fitting within the informal processes that information workers actually follow. Applications and documents can be extended to add enterprise specific features, and LOB systems can be seamlessly integrated with the Microsoft Office system to make the LOB system much more accessible. Computer Applications is one of several academic events sanctioned by the University Interscholastic League . Computer Applications is designed to test students abilities to use word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications software, including integration of applications. It is not the same as the Computer Science UIL Computer Science contest, which tests programming abilities. Computer Applications began during the 1994 95 scholastic year, replacing the Keyboarding contest previously held by UIL. Eligibility Students in Grade 9 through Grade 12 are eligible to enter this event. Each school may send up to three students. Computer Applications is an individual contest only there is no team competition in this event. Rules and Scoring The test consists of two parts. The first part is a five minute tie breaker question, which as its name suggests is only used in the event of a tie on the main test. No intermediate time signal is given during the tie breaker at the end of the five minutes the students must immediately stop typing, at which point they are instructed to print out their answer. The second part is the main test. It consists of two questions, which must be completed in 30 minutes. A three minute preview period is allotted before the test begins. Intermediate time signals are given when 10 minutes and two minutes remain. At the end of 30 minutes the students must immediately stop processing if they have initiated the print command prior to the end of the test they are allowed to finish printing. The Postgraduate Applications Centre is a related organisation that oversees some taught postgraduate courses. History The Central Applications Office was founded in January 1976 based in Galway, with nine colleges and universities participating initially. The first students processed through the system commenced courses in 1978. The Central Admissions Service CAS was introduced independently by the Dublin Institute of Technology and the Regional Technical Colleges , both of whom were outside the initial Central Applications Office. Commencing in the 1991 intake the Central Applications Office and Central Admissions Service decided to combine their admissions procedures so that students would have to complete only one joint application form for both systems the CAO CAS . The common points scale came into operation the next year, with the best six results from one sitting of the Leaving Certificate becoming the standard previous to that there had been some allowance to accumulate points by sitting the Leaving Certificate more than once. Also the combined system was taken as an opportunity to reduce non standard applications such as interviews for selection and portfolios of work and overall to simplify the applications process. Eventually the CAS was subsumed into the CAO.
