  1. High Aragon

Refimprove date August 2008 Image Valle de Tena, provincia de Huesca.JPG thumb right 300px Tena Valley , one of the valleys in Alto Aragon Alto Aragon Upper Aragon or High Aragon in English language English c.f. Upper Navarre, Upper Rioja refers to the northern most territories of Aragon, flanking the Pyrenees . The term is interchangeably used to refer to the Province of Huesca . The Alto Aragon is, historically and geographically, the territory of the original independent counties of the Marca Hispanica , that would later expand to form the Middle Ages medieval Kingdom of Aragon and ultimately become the Crown of Aragon . Usually used in a cultural context, the term Alto Aragon conveys more than anything a sense of an independent Pyrenean legacy of myths and legends, Templar s and crusade s. This is all reflected in its architecture, mountain top villages, its robust cuisine, distinctive traditional clothing now worn only in festivals, such as in Ans , folk music and dancing, and most especially, its language. The Aragonese language was born in the Alto Aragon mountains and today this is where it continues to be spoken most actively, by over 10,000 people. 1. Bertha of Aragon

Bertha of Aragon c. 1075 bef. 1111 was a Queen consort of Aragon and Navarre . Nothing is known about her childhood or the names of her parents, it is believed that she is Italian since her name was Berta , which is Italian. She was married to Peter I of Aragon in 1097, shortly after the death of Peter s first wife, Agnes of Aquitaine, Countess of Savoy Agnes of Aquitaine , with whom he had two children Peter and Isabella. Bertha and Peter had no children. Peter and Isabella were both dead by 1104 and King Peter needed an heir. They had no children and Peter died the following year. The crown of Aragon and Navarre passed to Alfonso the Battler Alfonso who was the half brother of Peter. Bertha got a dowry but Alfonso got all of Peter s lands. It is unknown when Bertha died or where she died. Genealogist Szabolcs de Vajay has speculated that Bertha may have been a daughter of Peter I, Count of Savoy and another Agnes of Aquitaine, perhaps the Agnes who was the final wife of Peter s father Ramiro I of Aragon and first cousin of Peter s own first wife. ref http fmg.ac Projects MedLands SAVOY.htm Berthediedbefore1111 SAVOY, Medieval Lands ref References Reflist s start s hou House of Aragon circa 1075 before 1111 s roy s bef rows 2 before Agnes of Aquitaine, Queen of Aragon and Navarre Agnes of Aquitaine s ttl title List of Aragonese consorts Queen consort of Aragon years 1097 1104 s aft rows 2 after Urraca of Le n and Castile s ttl title List of Navarrese consorts Queen consort of Navarre years 1097 1104 end Category Aragonese queen consorts Category Navarrese royal consorts Category Countesses of Ribagorza Category Medieval women Category 1075 births Category 1111 deaths an Berta d Arag n es Berta de Arag n eu Berta Italiakoa sv Bertha av Aragonien ...   more details
