Orphan date November 2006 Refimprove date April 2007 This period in North American archaeology is also referred to as the Piedmont period . The area that this tradition covered went from New England to North Carolina . The projectile points that are found in this tradition separate it form the Lake Forest tradition. Many of the tools that are found in this area are also lean more towards that of pestles and grinders. This indicates that the people were more interested in using the nuts and acorns that were located in this area. 1. List of archaic technological nomenclature

Disputed date March 2008 Archaic technological nomenclature are forms of speech and writing which, while once commonly used to describe a particular process, method, device, or phenomenon, have fallen into disuse due to the advance of science and technology . Such archaism is inevitable where continual re invention and discovery makes technical concepts, names and descriptions redundant. Context As technology evolves, new name s are required to describe the products, services, processes, methods, and devices invented. Often, the first names and phrases brought into use by are by the inventor s , by journalists covering the development, and marketers trying to sell the services and products. Other terms were developed by the public to explain the technology that they used. Some of these terms were initially widely used, then fell out of the common vernacular. Others failed to catch on and never entered common usage in the first place. Sometimes, the technologies themselves were superseded, and the term fell into disuse. In the history of science, forms of words are often coined to describe newly observed phenomena. Sometimes the words chosen reflect assumptions about the phenomenon which later turn out to be erroneous. In most cases, the original forms of words then become archaic and fall into disuse, with notable exceptions. This list documents such archaisms. Worthy Worthy and Wragg, 2008 synonyms The Henderson Archaic Pigeon Bountyphaps obsoleta , or Henderson Island Archaic Pigeon , is an extinction extinct bird in the Columbidae , or pigeon family biology family . It was described in 2008 as a new genus and species from subfossil remains found on Henderson Island Pitcairn Islands Henderson Island in the Pitcairn Islands Pitcairn Group of south eastern Polynesia . Etymology The genus was named for both the ship HMS Bounty HMS Bounty with which, following the famous mutiny , Europeans first discovered the Pitcairn Islands, and for the former bounty the bird provided as food with the Greek language Greek phaps wild pigeon . ref Worthy & Wragg, p.502. ref The specific epithet comes from the Latin adjective for extinct or forgotten about . ref Worthy & Wragg, p.505. ref Description and taxonomy The species was a large pigeon, comparable in size to large species of Columba or Ducula , and larger than the other three species of pigeon it coexisted with on the island. It had relatively small wings for its body size, suggesting that it was a weak flier, though not flightless. It was described from 18 bones from four archaeological site s on Henderson Island, mainly from early Polynesians Polynesian midden s. The affinities of the new genus are uncertain, but comparisons with other taxa suggest that, among living species, it is most closely related to the Nicobar Pigeon or the Tooth billed Pigeon . ref name Worthy & Wragg, p.508 Worthy & Wragg, p.508. ref Extinction The pigeon became extinct following human colonisation of Henderson, an event that had occurred by 1050 Common Era CE .
