In 1709, Lestocq arrived to Saint Petersburg in the capacity of a court physician . He was well regarded by Catherine I of Russia until 1720, when Peter I of Russia her husband had him exiled to Kazan for having seduced a jester s daughter. Upon the Emperor s death, Catherine summoned her favourite physician to the Russian capital, where his light hearted character made him friends with her daughter Elizaveta Petrovna , who he reportedly cured of syphilis . More than anyone else, Lestocq helped prepare the 1741 coup d etat which brought Elizaveta to the throne. He shaped Elizaveta s actions according to the advices of the French ambassador Marquis de La Ch tardie and the Swedish ambassador, who were particularly interested in toppling the regime of Anna Leopoldovna , as France sought to counterbalance ... In 1747 the Hurons insisted on his returning to restore tranquillity to their nation. The father had almost completely recovered from his palsy , and willingly consented. He set out from Montreal on 10 September, and reached Detroit on 20 October. From this date until 1751, leaving the loyal Hurons in the keeping of Father ... College . . DEFAULTSORT Emmanuel Armand De Mendieta Category Anglicanism Category Church of England clergy Category ...Multiple issues orphan December 2010 unreferenced October 2010 Emmanuel Amand de Mendieta 1907 1976 , Benedictine scholar specialised in the works of St. Basil of Caesarea , of Belgian aristocratic descent, attained a brief prominence in the English speaking world through his passage to Anglicanism in 1962. He entered the novitiate at Maredsous in 1925 shortly before the Malines Conversations between Roman Catholics and Anglicans was professed as Dom David in 1930 and priested in 1932. Thirty years later on the eve of the Second Vatican Council he announced his marriage and acceptance of a residentiary canonry of Winchester . Of studious disposition his numerous works particularly devoted to the reception of St. Basil amply testify to his monastic expertise. Publishing in several European languages, he continued to live a relatively secluded existence after his move to England. De Mendieta s acceptance of Anglican preferment invited journalist comparison with the case of de Dominis appointment to the Deanery of Windsor under James I. It was also subsequently noted that Charles Davis did not opt for a similar route when he left the Catholic church. Other distinguished early foreign appointments to Anglican canonries but from Protestant backgrounds were Isaac Casaubon and Gerrit and Isaac Vossius .
