Dvo k operas Armida is an opera by Anton n Dvo k in four acts, set to a libretto by Jaroslav Vrchlick that was originally based on Torquato Tasso s epic Jerusalem Delivered La Gerusalemme liberata . Dvorak s opera was first performed at Prague s National Theatre on 25 March 1904 the score was published as opus 115 in 1941. In terms of genre, Armida represents the culmination of Dvorak s experimentation with a Richard Wagner Wagnerian style of opera composition, though much of the music belongs to Dvorak s own genre. Vrchlick s libretto parallels the one that Philippe Quinault wrote for Jean Baptiste Lully in their Armide Lully opera of the same name . Citation needed date September 2010 The question is whether Vrchlick parallels Quinault to a greater extent than one would have expected with a view the fact that both are based on the same episode from Tasso s La Gerusalemme liberata and whether it parallels it to a greater extent than most opera librettos based on the same episode. Salieri operas Armida is an opera tic dramma per musica by Antonio Salieri in three acts, set to a libretto by Marco Coltellini . The plot is based on the epic poem by Torquato Tasso , and Jean Baptiste Lully Lully , Traetta , and Handel had already composed operas based on the situations that Tasso originally developed. The plot of all of these, and Salieri s work, is based on the relationship between Armida and the Crusader Rinaldo. Salieri s opera was first performed in Vienna on the 2nd June 1771, and his composition was much influenced by the aesthetics of Christoph Willibald Gluck , who attempted to reform opera seria by tying the drama more closely to the music. Salieri s overture follows the principles set out by Gluck in the preface to Alceste Gluck Alceste . Other Gluckian influences display themselves in the frequent interplay of soloist and chorus, and the heavy use of chorus overall. Yet her writings reflect an amazing tranquility, amid the chaos that surrounded her. Christian Mysticism As a mystic, she reported that she heard ...
