File Clairiere de l Armistice Compiegne.jpg thumbnail The Glade of Armistice The Glade of the Armistice lang fr Clairi re de l Armistice is a war memorial in the Forest of Compi gne . It stands on the spot where in 1918 the Germans signed Armistice with Germany the armistice that ended World War I . During World War II, Adolf Hitler deliberately chose the same location for the French and Germans to sign the Second Armistice at Compi gne after Germany won the Battle of France . Today, Glade of the Armistice contains a statue of Ferdinand Foch and the Alsace Lorraine Memorial. History Following their victory in the Battle of France , the Germans set out to humiliate the vanquished French by forcing them to sign the Second Armistice at Compi gne in the Glade, the same place that the Germans had signed the Armistice 22 years earlier. Adolf Hitler personally visited the Glade to participate in the ceremony. I have seen that face many times at the great moments of his life. But today It is afire with scorn, anger, hate, revenge, triumph. It was signed by the Russians and Ottoman Third Army Ottoman Empire Third Army in Erzincan on December 5, 1917. ref Tadeusz Swietochowski, Russian Azerbaijan 1905 1920, page 119 ref The armstice had the endorsement of the Special Transcaucasian Committee Transcaucasian Commissariat, Ozakom Osobyi Zakavkazskii Komitet, . The armstice was followed with the Treaty of Brest Litovsk on March 3, 1918, between the Russian SFSR and the Central Powers , marking Russia s exit from World War I . On February 1917, the Russian Revolution of 1917 Russian Revolution put a stop to all Russian military operations earlier. The Soviet regime that was established on November 7, 1917 was still referred to as the Russian Republic. Later it acquired the official name of Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic . Neither the Russian soldiers nor the Russian people wanted to go on with the war anymore. Before the Armistice, the Russian forces began to conduct withdrawals.
