    The University of Kentucky Salvation Army Clinic is a free clinic run by medical student s in Lexington, Kentucky . Founded in 1986, it is the oldest community service project run through the University of Kentucky College of Medicine UK College of Medicine and one of the oldest continuously operational student run free clinics in the USA . The clinic sees only medical insurance uninsured adult patients two nights a week, usually without appointments. It is staffed by an administrative leader called the Floor Manager and 4 medical students that act as interviewers. University of Kentucky UK and community physician s volunteer their time to make the clinic function. It has a small on site pharmacy and offers numerous specialty services, including physical therapy every Thursday. History The clinic was founded in 1986 by Dr. Abner Golden and Dr. David Cowen as a partnership between the UK College of Medicine and the Salvation Army of Central Kentucky . It began in a temporarily walled off corner of the dining room at the downtown Salvation Army, and soon moved to a converted storage closet. In 1992 Dr. John Gurley took over. Under his tenure, medical students in the pre clinical years became involved, and the clinic moved to a larger space with three exam rooms and modest office space. Dr. Wanda Gonsalves assumed directorship in 1997, formalized the officer corps for second year medical students, and added an elective focused on the clinic. Physical therapy students joined in 2002. Beginning in 2003, the clinic directorship passed among several people until ultimately resting in the hands of Dr. Jennifer Joyce, the current director, in 2006.     Orphan date February 2009 The Kentucky Rangers , a military organization at the University of Kentucky , was founded by Carl Wes Albright in 1964. History In 1964 a group of UK Army ROTC cadets headed by Carl Wes Albright organized the Kentucky Longrifles. The original goal of the organization was to train cadets in guerrilla type warfare.In 1966, the organization was renamed the Kentucky Rangers, and at the same time, the training was also changed placing greater emphasis on techniques of conventional warfare. Mission Primarily, the mission of the Kentucky Rangers is to train sophomore and junior cadets for Advance Camp and to prepare senior cadets for active duty. This program includes training in such subjects as basic first aid, squad and platoon tactics, communications, rappelling, basic mountaineering, patrolling, and weapons. Mission statement The desired result of this Ranger unit is a group of cadets who train like the Rangers, double time like the Airborne, look like the Presidential Honor Guard, and have more Esprit de Corps than the Marines. We are a proud group of young men who are endeavoring to prepare ourselves more adequately to assume the tasks of young army officers. US Highway 60 cuts through Spottsville. The Green River Kentucky Green River runs through Spottsville, and the Green River Lock & Dam is located in the city. If one travels east through Spottsville, one can see the Lock to ones right when one crosses the Green River Bridge .
