Infobox prepared food name Icebox cake image Image Icebox cake.jpg file 200px imagesize caption alternate name Zebra cake, Chocolate Ripple cake country region creator course Dessert served main ingredient Whipped cream and chocolate wafers variations calories other unreferenced date June 2010 An icebox cake American , zebra cake British , or chocolate ripple cake log Australian is a dessert consisting of whipped cream and chocolate wafers . The back of the box recipe on Nabisco Famous Chocolate Wafers indicates that the wafers are stacked to form a log with whipped cream cementing them together, and then the log is laid on its side. A second log is formed and the two are set side by side and more whipped cream covers the exterior. The cake is then left overnight in the refrigerator or icebox . The wafers absorb moisture from the whipped cream and the whole can be served in slices. The dessert is usually served by cutting it into slices at a 45 degree angle, so bands of chocolate and cream are visible across each slice. The traditional wafers are the Nabisco Famous Chocolate Wafers, but they can be hard to find so other cookies are often substituted. American variations A variation of icebox cake is made using pudding usually chocolate and graham crackers layered in a square or rectangular baking dish. Additional variations include alternating layers of chocolate and vanilla pudding, or the addition of sliced banana s or pineapple s between the layers. While this can be done with cold instant pudding, if given ample time in the icebox, the best results come from assembling the dessert with still hot stove cooked pudding, and then refrigerating overnight. Australian version In Australia the cake is made from Arnotts Chocolate Ripple biscuits, hence the name in that country of Chocolate Ripple cake. ref improve date February 2012 The Opera Centre was a planned shopping centre in Limerick Limerick City , Ireland . Intended as a development for the city centre, one of the entrances would have faced the Abbey River at Bank Place, the other entrance was to be at the junction of Patrick Street and Ellen Street. The complex was named by the developers in honour of Limerick s famous rags to riches 18th century soprano Catherine Hayes who was born at 4 Patrick Street which forms part of the site. The most striking aspects to the design of the Opera Centre were the two modern glass fronted entrances, which were to become the flagship features. Other plans included the building of a stand alone three storey caf bar and restaurant with landscaped plaza and decking at Bank Place. The other stand out feature to the multi million development was the Sky Bridge , a glass and steel pedestrian bridge, which would link a new multi storey car park on Denmark Street with the centre at Ellen Street. If the project proceeded it would have involved the demolition of a substantial number of historic Georgian buildings. This raised heritage concerns given that Limerick has the largest collection of Georgian architecture in Ireland outside of Dublin Georgian Dublin . In some cases the facades would be maintained but in general the outside perimeter would house service corridors. As a result, Patrick Street, Ellen Street and Micheal Street are likely to suffer a significant drop in footfall as the business and retail entrances would disappear from these streets. The inward facing nature of the development has been criticised as being retrograde in contrast, most newer inner city shopping centre plans for example that planned for Arnotts Ireland Arnotts or the redevelopment of the ILAC centre attempt to face outwards adding life to the existing streets. The project was dubbed the largest shopping centre in Munster at 400,000 square feet the site now covers 3.2 acres of derelict site in t ... more details
