Plot The film centers on Kessler, a psychologist in the human resources department of the French branch of a long established German firm. The firm has recently dismissed 50 of its workforce on criteria devised by Kessler. Rose, the vice president of the company, requests Kessler to look into whether J st, the CEO is fit to do his job. The CEO discovers Kessler is investigating him and tells him that Rose, whose previous name was Kraus, has a Nazi past. Kessler then discovers that J st s father headed a Nazi extermination group on the Eastern Front during World War II . Jews placed in the back of a closed truck were killed with the truck s exhaust gas. A device called a heartbeat detector was then applied to discover any who had survived. Tormented by this memory J st attempts suicide. The action then shifts from the company s politics to the Holocaust . An analogy is drawn between company downsizing and extermination. The STAR detector for Solenoidal Tracker at RHIC is one of the four experiments at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider RHIC in Brookhaven National Laboratory , United States. The primary physics task of STAR is to study the formation and characteristics of the quark gluon plasma QGP , a state of matter believed to exist at sufficiently high energy densities. Detecting and understanding the QGP allows us to understand better the universe in the moments after the Big Bang , where the symmetries and lack of symmetries of our surroundings were put into motion. Unlike other physics experiments where a theoretical idea can be tested directly by a single measurement, STAR must make use of a variety of simultaneous studies in order to draw strong conclusions about the QGP.
