Biography Boito was born in Rome, the son of an Italian painter of miniatures. He studied in Padua and then architecture at the Accademia School of Fine Arts in Venice . During his time there, he was influenced by Selvatico Estense, an architect who championed the study of medieval art in Italy. He taught architecture at the Venice School of Fine Arts until 1856 when he moved to Tuscany . During his extensive work restoring ancient buildings, he tried to reconcile the conflicting views of his contemporaries on architectural restoration, notably those of Eugene Viollet le Duc and John Ruskin . This reconciliation of ideas was presented at the III Conference of Architects and Civil Engineers of Rome in 1883 in a document later to be known as the Prima Carta del Restauro or the Charter of Restoration.     Boito operas Nerone Nero is an opera in four acts composed by Arrigo Boito , to a libretto in Italian language Italian written by the composer. The work is a series of scenes from Roman Empire Imperial Rome at the time of Emperor Nero depicting tensions between the Imperial religion and Christianity, and ends with the Great Fire of Rome . Boito died in 1918 before finishing the work. Performance history It was eventually premiered posthumously at La Scala on May 1, 1924, conducted by Arturo Toscanini in a version of the score completed by Toscanini, Vincenzo Tommasini , and Antonio Smareglia . The role of Nero was first performed by Aureliano Pertile . The role of Asteria, a young woman torn between her love for Nero and her Christian sympathies, was created by Rosa Raisa . The opera was very well received at its premiere, and the newly rebuilt Teatro dell Opera di Roma Rome Opera House inaugurated its first season with Nerone in 1928. However, it has only been rarely performed since that time, even in Italy. It did not receive its US premiere until April 12, 1982, when it was performed in a concert version by the Opera Orchestra of New York in Carnegie Hall .     Arrigo Pedrollo born Montebello Vincentino , December 5, 1878 died Vicenza , December 23, 1964 was an Italy Italian composer. His father was his first teacher at thirteen he went to study at the Milan Conservatory . Among his teachers there was Gaetano Coronaro . At his graduation in 1900, Pedrollo s only symphony was performed, under the direction of Arturo Toscanini . He chose instead to compose operas in a Richard Wagner Wagnerian cast in 1908 his first, Terra promessa , was premiered in Cremona . His second, Juana , won the 1949 Sonzogno Prize . Between 1920 and 1936 six more of his operas saw their premieres. In 1922 he became the head of the Conservatory in Vincenza. Life Born to a Jewish family in Ferrara in 1881, he took a course in arts and crafts before working as a ceramicist, designer, teacher and stucco artist in Florence , Ferrara and Genoa in this period he produced a gigantic Neptune in iron and cement in 1910 at Monterosso al Mare , and other fountains in Genoa . Aged 35 he moved to Milan where, in 1919, he put on an exhibition of his work to the critics and the public in the Galleria Pesaro. That exhibition also toured successfully to the 1920 Regionale di Ferrara, back to Milan in 1922 before going to the Primaverile Fiorentina that year, and finally being invited to the Venice Biennale , where he exhibited his silver group Last Supper now in Oslo Cathedral . Biography Marzola attended the courses taught by Cesare Tallone at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts from 1906 to 1911, focusing on portraiture, landscape and still life. He made his debut in Milan at the Esposizione Annuale di Belle Arti di Milano of 1912 and at the Venice Biennale with the 11th Esposizione Internazionale della Citt di Venezia in 1914. He served in World War I and established his reputation in the 1920s, not least by winning the Gavazzi Prize at the Esposizione Nazionale di Belle Arti di Milano in 1920. The same year saw his appointment as professor of drawing at the Milan school of arts and crafts, a post he was to hold until 1959.
