The linear section connects Botley, Hampshire Botley to Bursledon railway station via Manor Farm Country Park . The circular section is usually done in a clockwise direction. From Bursledon railway station the trail goes south closely following the River Hamble and through Hamble le Rice Hamble until it meets Southampton Water . The trail then turns right and follows the shoreline into Royal Victoria Country Park . The path exits the Country Park next to the Tearoom U.K. and U.S. tearooms and twists and turns along a short nature trail until it meets the Hamble Rail Trail . The path continues North along Hound Road then crosses farmland, turns right at a recreation ground, and returns to the railway station via the outskirts of Bursledon. There are numerous pay car parks in the area, however it is recommended that walkers use the free car park just off Mortimer Road near Botley High Street. In summer a ferry service operates between Hamble and Manor Farm Country Park. The rural parts of the trail are waymarking waymarked in the clockwise direction by metal and plastic disks found attached to wooden and metal posts, trees and street furniture . However there are very few markers within the Royal Victoria Country Park and on the section that passes through the outskirts of Bursledon. Orphan date February 2009 Inappropriate tone date December 2007 Between 1913 and 1938, J. Joseph Hampton Rich, a resident of Mocksville, North Carolina, USA took it upon himself to keep the memory of Daniel Boone and his travels alive. He did this by placing 358 metal tablets between Virginia Beach, VA and San Francisco, CA. Although many of the tablets are associated with locations visited by Boone, many were simply placed wherever Mr. Rich could collect the necessary donations from schools, communities, etc. to erect a monument. He established the Boone Trail Highway Association to further his project. From the mid 1920s to the mid 1930s, the Association published a newsletter which detailed the efforts to install new monuments. Image Btm1.jpg right thumbnail The May June 1936 issue of the Boone Trail Herald showing arrowhead shaped monument installed at Tidewater, Virginia The markers also have a link to more recent history. Supposedly, the tablets were at least partially constructed from metal salvaged from the battleship USS Maine ACR 1 , which was sunk during Spanish American War in 1898. Typically, the tablets were located near schools, government buildings or along old highway routes. Over the years many of the markers have been lost to highway construction and general urban sprawl. In the late 1990s, a group of descendants of Daniel Boone established the Boone Trail Highway & Memorial Re Association with the intent of locating the markers which remained. Approximately 60 tablets have been located thus far. One of the tablets can be found on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill, North Carolina .
