In 1964, Lafayette businessman and philanthropist, Maurice Heymann donated to the University of Southwestern Louisiana USL , now University of Louisiana at Lafayette , three acres of land located on the corner of East Saint Mary Boulevard and Girard Park Drive for the purpose of building the Art Center for Southwestern Louisiana. In 1965, USL Foundation began planning for the construction and operation of the new Center. Starting with a fund of 100,000, the Foundation began a campaign to secure an additional 100,000. Construction on the Center began in April 1967 and the building opened to the public in March 1968. The new Center, a replica of the Hermitage Darrow, Louisiana , a 19th century Louisiana River Road plantation house, was designed by A. Hays Town . In 2002, Lafayette residents, Paul and Lulu Hilliard, presented UL Lafayette Foundation a lead gift of 3 million for the construction of a new 8.4 million University Art Museum. The new Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum opened in April 2004. The museum building is convert 33000 sqft m2 with over convert 11000 sqft m2 of gallery space. The University Art Museum is an education oriented museum that serves as a center for interdisciplinary learning. The Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art is a scholarly centre in London devoted to the study of British Art . It was founded in 1970 and opened to the public in 1977, and is endowed by a gift from Paul Mellon . Since 1996, it has been situated at 16 Bedford Square in a Grade I listed building . This building houses an outstanding library of 12,000 volumes focused on British Art, as well as a number of important manuscript collections. Although incorporated as a British educational charity, the Centre has close links to Yale University . Since its humble beginnings in 1998, it has become one of the leading arts festivals in Australia dedicated to the work and ideas of communities not included in other major Australian arts festivals. The program includes the festivals Electrofringe , the National Young Writers Festival , Critical Animals , Sound Summit the Crack Theatre Festival and other projects. Naming This Is Not Art takes its name from a prominent piece of graffiti on what was Newcastle s tallest building, Latec House now completely refurbished and converted to apartments , which had been derelict for several decades. The name also refers to the content of the event, which is outside the ambit of traditional Australian arts festivals. History This Is Not Art evolved from the National Young Writers Festival and National Student Media Conference which were established in Newcastle in September 1998. In 1999, The National Young Writers Festival combined with the Electrofringe Festival which had previously been an independently organised part of the now defunct Newcastle Fringe Festival and moved to the October long weekend. Meanwhile, thrown out by his wife, Elgin has moved into Bryan s caravan and Mrs Cakeworthy s relentless gossiping fuels speculation about their change in relationship. Later the caravan burns down, and Boycie is horrified to find that Marlene has offered Bryan and Elgin a place to stay until it is fit to inhabit again. Still at the Grange a month later, Boycie despairs of ever getting rid of them, but they have a surprise in store as a mark of their gratitude, they have commissioned a renowned local artist, Genevieve Klunge, to paint his portrait. Sadly for Boycie, Mrs Klunge is mainly renowned for her paintings of cows.
