    Arthur Gordon Art Smith March 23, 1899 February 24, 1973 was an United States American film stage and television actor, best known for playing supporting roles in the 1940s. Born in Chicago , the actor appeared in many black and white film noir noirish films in supporting roles alongside more handsome and popular movie leads, such as John Garfield in Body and Soul 1947 film Body and Soul 1947 and Humphrey Bogart in In a Lonely Place 1950 . The grey haired actor usually played studious types in films. One of his last movie roles was in The Hustler film The Hustler in an uncredited part. He worked on television before finally retiring in 1967. Smith was one of the victims of the Hollywood blacklist , which ended his film career in 1952. He died, aged 73, in Long Island , New York , from a heart attack. Since its humble beginnings in 1998, it has become one of the leading arts festivals in Australia dedicated to the work and ideas of communities not included in other major Australian arts festivals. The program includes the festivals Electrofringe , the National Young Writers Festival , Critical Animals , Sound Summit the Crack Theatre Festival and other projects. Naming This Is Not Art takes its name from a prominent piece of graffiti on what was Newcastle s tallest building, Latec House now completely refurbished and converted to apartments , which had been derelict for several decades. The name also refers to the content of the event, which is outside the ambit of traditional Australian arts festivals. History This Is Not Art evolved from the National Young Writers Festival and National Student Media Conference which were established in Newcastle in September 1998. In 1999, The National Young Writers Festival combined with the Electrofringe Festival which had previously been an independently organised part of the now defunct Newcastle Fringe Festival and moved to the October long weekend. Meanwhile, thrown out by his wife, Elgin has moved into Bryan s caravan and Mrs Cakeworthy s relentless gossiping fuels speculation about their change in relationship.
