Tiridates fled to Syria , where Augustus Caesar Augustus allowed him to stay, but refused to support him. During the next years Tiridates invaded Parthia again some coins dated from March and May, 26 BC , with the name of a king Arsaces Philoromaios, belong to him on the reverse they show the king seated on the throne, with Tyche stretching out a palm branch towards him. He was soon expelled again, and brought a son of Phraates into Spain to Augustus. Augustus gave the boy back to his father, but declined to surrender the fugitive slave Tiridates. Sanatruces II of Parthia , the son of Mithridates IV of Parthia Mithridates IV , was a pretender to the throne of the Parthian Empire during the disputed reign of his uncle Osroes I of Parthia Osroes I . When Osroes was deposed by the invading Roman Emperor Trajan in 116 in favor of the puppet ruler Parthamaspates of Parthia Parthamaspates , Sanatruces and his father, Osroes brother Mithridates, together claimed the diadem and continued the struggle against the Romans in Mesopotamia . Trajan then marched southward to the Persian Gulf , defeated them, and declared Mesopotamia a province of the Roman Empire . After the Romans withdrew, Osroes drove out Parthamaspates and reclaimed the Parthian throne. Mithridates IV eventually succeeded Osroes about 129 and reigned to about 140 , when he died in an attack on Roman Commagene . Sanatruces, whom he had appointed his successor, predeceased him, also falling in a battle with the Romans. No footnotes date May 2009 Artabanus the Hyrcanian was a Persia n political figure during the Achaemenid Dynasty who was reportedly Regent of Persia for a few months 465 BC 464 BC . Artabanus probably originated from the province of Hyrcania and reportedly served as the chief official of Xerxes I . He is considered to have served either as his vizier or as his head bodyguard . According to Aristotle , Artabanus was responsible for the death of Crown Prince Darius. He then became afraid that Xerxes would seek revenge and proceeded to assassination assassinate the King. On the other hand Junianus Justinus reported that Artabanus had personal ambitions for the throne. He first secretly murdered Xerxes and then accused Darius of parricide , resulting in his execution. The order of events remain uncertain but Xerxes and Darius certainly left the throne vacant. Artabanus course of action is also uncertain. Some accounts have him usurping the throne for himself. Others consider him to have named young Artaxerxes I as King and to have acted as Regent and power behind the throne . This state of affairs would not last more than a few months. Artaxerxes reportedly slew him with his own sword, either in battle or by surprise. Artabanus is occasionally listed among the Kings of the Achaemenid dynasty though he was not related to them. As Artaxerxes is believed to be the inspiration for King Ahasuerus in the story of Purim , Artabanus may have been the inspiration for Haman in the same story.
