  1. Rhodogune of Parthia

Unreferenced date February 2009 Rhodogune was the daughter of Mithridates I of Parthia Mithridates I king of Parthia , c. 171 BCE 138 BCE , and sister of Phraates II ruled 138 BCE 127 BCE . History In 138 BCE Rhodogune married Seleucid king Demetrius II of Syria Demetrius II Nicator ruled 146 139 BCE, 129 126 BCE . After bearing several children with him, she was presumably abandoned in 131 BCE when Demetrius, after numerous failed attempts to escape from Parthia, was dispatched back to Antioch during the invasion of Parthia by Demetrius brother, Antiochus VII Sidetes . During their marriage, she had been temporarily a hostage in the Parthian court after an ill fated campaign. Polyaenus http www.attalus.org translate polyaenus8B.html 27.1 8.27 tells us that Rhodogune, informed of a revolt while preparing for a bath, vowed not to bathe or brush her hair until the revolt was neutralised. She immediately went to battle, riding out to the head of her army. She successfully directed the battle, and was depicted thereafter with long, disheveled hair because of her adherence to her vow. He is the sole source of the story. Reverse shows a seated archer holding a bow, surrounded by meaningless Greek like letterforms. Parthamaspates , Roman Empire Roman client king of Parthian Empire Parthia and later of Osroene , was the son of the Parthian emperor Osroes I of Parthia Osroes I . After spending much of his life in Roman exile , he accompanied the Roman Emperor Trajan on the latter s campaign to conquer Parthia. Trajan originally planned to annex Parthia as part of the Roman Empire , but ultimately decided instead to place Parthamaspates on his father s throne as a Roman client, doing so in 116 . Following Roman withdrawal from the area, Osroes easily defeated Parthamaspates and reclaimed the Parthian throne. After his defeat in Parthia, Parthamaspates again fled to the Romans who then, as a consolation, granted him the co rule of Osroene, a small Roman client state between Asia Minor and Syria . Coins bearing Orodes likeness were issued from the Medes Median mints of the cities of Ecbatana and Ray, Iran Rhagae . The history of Parthia is quite obscure during this period, but Orodes reign seems to have ended, as it had begun, in civil war with an unknown claimant. The name of his successor is also unknown, and it is only with the beginning of the reign of Sanatruces of Parthia Sanatruces , c. 77 BC , that the line of Parthian rulers can again be reliably traced.
