  1. Arval Brethren

Priesthoods of ancient Rome In Religion in ancient Rome ancient Roman religion , the Arval Brethren lang la Fratres Arvales , Brothers of the Fields or Arval Brothers were a body of priests who offered annual sacrifice s to the Lares and gods to guarantee good harvest s. Epigraphy Inscriptions provide evidence of their oaths, rituals and sacrifices. Origin Roman legend held that the priestly college was originated by Romulus , who took the place of a dead son of his nurse Acca Laurentia , and formed the priesthood with the remaining eleven sons. They were also connected originally with the Sabines Sabine priesthood of Sodales Titii who were probably originally their counterpart among the Sabines. The brethren dated back to the time of Numa Pompilius , second king of Rome, and persisted to the imperial period. Their task was the worship of Dea Dia , an old fertility goddess and probably an aspect of Ceres Roman mythology Ceres . On the three days of her May festival, they offered sacrifices and chanted secretly inside the temple of the goddess at her lucus the Carmen Arvale , the exact meaning of which was no longer understood in later times. Fact date February 2008 The magister master of the college selected the exact three days of the celebration by an unknown method. The celebration began in Rome on the first day, was transferred to a sacred grove outside the city wall on the second day and ended back in the city on the third day. The River Brethren is a name used to indicate certain Christian groups originating in 1770, during a revival movement among Germany German colonizers in Pennsylvania . In the 17th century, Mennonite refugees from Switzerland had settled their homes near the Susquehanna River in the northeastern U.S. Their religious guides, Jacob and John Engle, joined with the revival, and their followers were often known by their locality a group of brethren from north of Marietta, Pennsylvania on the east side of the Susquehanna River came to be known as the River Brethren . ref cite web author Bender, Harold S. authorlink Harold S. 1. Loose Brethren

Loose Brethren is a disparaging term sometimes used to identify the Open Brethren assemblies within the Plymouth Brethren movement which hold to a more open policy of reception to Communion Bible Chapel Brethren , in contrast to the more conservative and often more traditional Gospel Hall Brethren sometimes called Tight Brethren . These assemblies are also sometimes referred to as Wide Opens , although there are varying degrees of policy with regard to reception to Communion within the Bible Chapel Brethren . Reception is generally on the basis of the biblical understanding of the one body of Christ , but it ranges in practice from those that will receive believers from Bible Chapels and Gospel Halls with a letter of commendation only, to those that see the Lord s Table for Communion as completely open. This is in contrast to the teaching of the Gospel Hall Open Brethren that reception to the Lord s Table for Communion is based on assembly fellowship. The term Loose Brethren also has a wider application encompassing a conservative approach to church life and a greater regulation of church order than those assemblies deemed tight . For example their historical use of musical instruments, singers, interdenominational preaching and nowadays to their greater toleration of innovation women not wearing head coverings, resident full time workers or pastors , family services, praise bands, PowerPoint, female participation etc. etc. All of which, of course, are cause of criticism from the more traditional. 1. Dunkard Brethren

Schwarzenau Brethren portal Christianity The Dunkard Brethren are a small group of conservative Schwarzenau Brethren churches that withdrew from the Church of the Brethren . The Church of the Brethren represents the largest body of churches that descended from the original pietist movement began in Germany by Alexander Mack and 7 other believers. Early in the 20th century some members began to feel that there was a drift away from apostolic standards. Because of this, a small group of conservatives withdrew from the Church of the Brethren and formed the Dunkard Brethren Church in 1926. The name Dunkard or Dunker is derived from the German language German word tunken , meaning to dip . This emphasizes the method of immersion observed by all of the various branches of Schwarzenau Brethren triune immersion. A believer is immersed three times, once in the name of the Father, once in the name of the Son, and once in the name of the Holy Spirit. Some of the Dunkard Brethren exhibit the Plain people plainness of dress associated with the Old Order Brethren and Mennonite s. 1. Social Brethren

The Social Brethren is a small body of evangelical Christianity Christians located in the Midwestern United States and the Philippines . The Social Brethren originated in Saline County, Illinois in 1867. Frank Wright and Hiram T. Brannon were among those who led in the founding of this denomination. The major impetus behind the formation of the Social Brethren was the desire to heal the division in churches over the issue of slavery. They believed that Christians who held to the fundamental teaching of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ should fellowship one another, regardless of their views on slavery. They considered anything more to be political preaching , which they still reject. The leaders came from Baptist , Presbyterian , and Methodist backgrounds. The church doctrine and polity is a blend of the doctrine and polity of those churches. The ordinances are baptism and The Lord s Supper the Lord s supper . The Social Brethren reject infant baptism, but allow a candidate to choose between immersion, pouring, or sprinkling. Immersion appears to be used in the majority of cases. Their beliefs include affirmation of the Trinity that the Bible contains all things necessary to salvation and spiritual life that salvation is through Jesus alone the possibility of apostasy the right of voting and free speech for the laity and the impropriety of political preaching . By 1890, they had grown to 20 churches with 913 members. Currently there are over 1,000 members in 29 congregations. In 1983, there were 26 churches with 1165 members in Illinois , Indiana , and Michigan , as well as eight churches and a mission point in the Philippines. There are three associations that meet annually. The general assembly meets biennially.
